think you need a scrip to The Athletic or NYT to read in-full, but sometimes these are free:
extensive report on the struggles of Jimbo Fisher at A&M this year (remember that Taggart left UO because A&M dropped $100 mill to lure Jimbo from Free Shoes). pretty much anything that could go wrong did, on and off the field.
Fisher is one of only five active HCs to have won a national championship. the skill-set required to do that has changed dramatically in the past five years; as the article states, it's more about being a CEO managing all the moving parts. hiring and managing asst coaches, S&C, recruiting HS, recruiting the portal, recruiting your own team to stay, enforcing discipline and ensuring academic success, massaging high-roller boosters, the media, & the fan base. and on yeah . . . actually coaching football.
success criteria for a college HC at the P5 level are wholly different from that of a successful college coordinator or NFL assistant. Oregon, Mullens, and Lanning are facing the same issues that ate Jimbo, and always will.

All the money being thrown around for coaches (Cristobal) and players in all sports is pretty sad.
Can you imagine how the Denver Broncos feel with Russell Wilson?? We are honored to watch Denver and the LA Rams play on Christmas Day! Oh boy, Wilson against possibly Baker Mayfield. Makes you want to hurl your Christmas pudding!
