Never say never but I doubt there will ever be a P5 college head coach who will come even remotely close to Mike Leach's career path...
+Didn't play college football
+Played Rugby at BYU(BA)
+United States Sports Academy(MS)
+Pepperdine University(JD)
+With zero college football background he became a head coach in the Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC
One of the few guarantees EVERY college football season was Mike Leach and his Air Raid offense were going to have a strange game or two; he would have some quirky and funny press conferences; he would rarely pubicly talk in typical head coach chatter and he would ALWAYS be himself.
Loved having him in the Pac-12.

Thanks for the post DR, well said.
The one and only Mike Leach. There certainly will never be another coach just like him.
He really had a major influence on the game and influenced many others. Linconln Riley comes to mind among many others.Â
While his persona might be polerizing at times nobody can say he didn't have an effective strategy for the game of football. He took the dumsterfire of WSU and turned them into a team we feared every year.
FYI the guy was a lawayer, historian, and expert at magic tricks among other things.
Life can be strange and off the wall at times and ML fully embraced the follies of life to his own drum beat. I'm wishing his friends and family well through difficult times. RIP Mike Leach

This one hurts. Really sad for those in his circles of influence who lost a giant of a human being. To Leach it seemed as if there was no such thing as a bad question, so he took it as a personal challenge to deliver a thoughtful and intelligent response to all of them. Did not always mean he was right, but he tried. My admiration for him stems from the fact that he sought out his opportunities with the underdog programs. He had his chances to accept the jobs at blue blood programs but stuck to the blue highways instead. And he won wherever he went. Always seemed to have the Duck’s number, never a gimme with his teams…. Hmmmmm….
