This is one writers opinion; might start a discussion.

It's depressing to even think about, and I found myself getting furious reading it.
My wish is to stay relevant as a regional power. I'd like Oregon to represent the West and stay in a "Western" conference (Pac10?) or some amalgamation of Western schools.
Our best hope is the expanded college playoff. When Oregon or any Pac10 school makes the field, we've got to show up!!! We've got to win or regularly make the final 4. If a Pac10 school doesn't win a Natty in the next 10 years, the Jackass writer could be right.
Bottom line: our conference needs to start WINNING!!!!
Easier said than done.

if Oregon were to join the B1G, the Ducks would be in a left-coast 'pod' w SC, UCLA, and whoever else came along (UW, Furd). we would play those teams every year, and likely play one game a year in L.A. (huge for recruiting).
I expect the new 12-team playoff will have at least two and often three teams every year from the SEC and B1G (end of regular season rankings: UGA (1) Bammy (5), Tenn (6); UM (2), tOSU (4). P-12 would have had only one entry, Utes (8) or SC (3 or 4 if Tommy hadn't gagged the P-12 championship game).
so to say that the path to the new playoff would be easier from the P-10 isn't necessarily so.
UO to the B1G in football makes sense if the opportunity arises down the road. for the remaining non-revenue sports, it would be an expensive logistical nightmare, given the geographical distances. baseball and softball on the road for two weeks v Minnesota & Wisconsin (pick up a couple of non-conf mid-weeks v Stevens Point and Macalester)?.
Notre Dame operates as an indie, but aligns with the ACC for basketball. maybe someday football will be severed from the other sports and all the major programs will wind up in two (or more) super-leagues.

Who is Brandon Marcello?
The Brandon Marcello I Googled has spent his entire career working in SEC states.
You can tell by his comments he doesn't have a clue about Pac-12 football.
First of all he didn't say one thing I haven't heard or read before.
Second why does everyone assume it is all going to work out great for USC and UCLA going to the Little Ten? Maybe it will be a mess.
Oregon has played it perfectly to this point... waiting for a new media rights deal and to see what happens to UCLA and USC playing their nearest conference competitors in EVERY SPORT two time zones away.
Third I find it interesting that rarely does anyone ever address Autzen Stadium being significantly undersized compared to Little Ten and SEC schools when suggesting that Oregon would fit well in those conferences?
In the SEC ONLY Vanderbilt at 40,000 capacity is smaller than Autzen at 54,000.
In the Little Ten it's Northwestern at 47,000 and then Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana and Minnesota range from 51,800 to 52,900...the Purdue at 57,536.
So basically in the Little Ten and SEC combined, Oregon has a significantly bigger stadium than 2 schools... Vanderbilt and Northwestern. Small stadiums = smaller revenues.
Fourth, nobody recruits Oregon or even Washington for that matter...so you are adding 2 schools who have very little recruiting opportunities to them in virtually every sport.
Marcello just picks the usual handful of talking points without giving even a nod to the notion it might not be a good move at all.
