this bill, which I actually doubt will even get a hearing, would allow the legislators to approve any conference realignment.

Given that the UO and osu are both public universities, this is not surprising.
Plus, while I plead ignorance on public college finances, it might be pre-emptive to prevent what happened in California where UCLA has to pay Cal up to $10 million for moving to the Little Ten.
Certainly if the UO and osu go their separate ways, Oregon is most likely to benefit more financially relative to sports. So would they then have to compensate osu since both are supported by the taxpayers of Oregon?

But Wait...there's more.
"A bill proposed in the Oregon state House is targeting fan behavior at college sporting events and would hold coaches and athletic directors accountable if fans act out."

It seems like you can never get away from politics, despite your best efforts. The State literally has better things to do than write bills that are literally unenforcible and serve no one in particular if they ever saw the ink from the Governor's pen.
But since its on the table, let's get hypothetical... Are you really going to suspend Lanning or Smith because a moron in attendance decides to suck the oxygen out of the stadium with obscene actions? Good luck hiring the next coach. Or how about this? All activities on university grounds on game day are 100% dry... No Bloody Mary's at the tailgate nor a beer in the garden at the half nor any cocktails in the stadium boxes... Good luck with tix and sponsor renewals...
So shortsighted and only to get headlines...

more than a little misdirected. the Athletic Depts and the universities as a whole need to be accountable for this, not individuals. I know UO AD has undertaken an aggressive campaign in recent years to make the Autzen game-day experience hospitable for all (show good CON-DUCK-T). that benefits everybody. it also requires spending money on things like security and alcohol monitors.
I understand the impetus here. state of Oregon has invested a lot of time & money in recent years attracting and securing big events: World Outdoors at Hayward, NCAAW Final Four (2030) and Sweet 16 (2019). so some stakeholder or decision-maker halfway across the country w limited knowledge of the situation thinks 'Oregon is where fans chant F the Mormons' or 'Oregon State is where they shout racial epithets at USC WBB players' . . . and kabloooey. next applicant.
sad but true . . . can't escape the politics anymore. people are making decisions based on limited and warped perceptions.

So tired of politics involved in everything...whatever happened to good old fashioned football? I immigrated to the US in 1988 and it was such a rush experiencing a great move. It's still a rush but we're sure making it hard on ourselves. I want to go back to those days where we respected each other whatever our beliefs were. Still the best place to be on Earth! Keep the political BS out of daily living and let us enjoy the life we have.

I'm getting tired of politics in everything too.
I wrote much more, but just deleted it to spare everyone from a rant about my distaste of the current state of politics.
Go Ducks! I look forward to talking about spring practice and the season approaching.
