One, this was a game that was about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s because the X’s and O’s missed the trip.
Two, this is the kind of game you win today in exchange for a bad loss later…. With so much sloppiness to clean up and a coaching staff somewhat out to lunch, this ain’t going to get fixed before Colorado comes calling.
Last, forget the ranking. Every game from here out (including Hawaii) will be too close for too uncomfortably long with the team playing to the level of the opponent.
Great win for the players today. Proud of my boy, Boettcher making the most of his shot…

There is the "belief" in sports that a team takes on the character of the head coach...the Oregon players yesterday did exactly that...Lanning never seems to have the game in his grasp...mentally, strategically, emotionally, etc. It trickles down through the coaching staff to the players.
The final 1:19 or so of the game was absurd in that Oregon had a third and seven at the TT 11-yard line and they call / run a pitch play which James runs out of bounds(stops the clock) for a 4-yard loss!?!🙄
Why would you ever think running a play towards the sideline in that situation is smart??
Then a delay of game penalty...MAYBE intentionally to get a better angle?
Then Bassa with only 35 seconds remaining and a 31-30 lead runs it in for a TD instead of sliding down at the 1 or 2 yard line(after which a kneel down if they even half to run a play and game over).
Sure enough, TT still with a timeout along with some missed tackles and a late hit by Oregon GIVES them one last chance to tie the game with a Hail Mary which wasn't close per se BUT still...totally unnecessary.
We saw the same thing against UW, Utah and OSU last season...tight games at the end and Lanning stumbles around as do the coaching staff and players...BUT while Utah and TT were wins...none of those games should have been that way in the end. All four should have long been over in favor of Oregon.
I can accept other teams raising their games but when the Oregon head coach keeps giving them "assists" in all shapes and forms...not good.

I guess what really baffled me was the way that the offense looks like they are drawing plays in the sand before each snap. It's as if they are trying to figure out the opponent on the fly, instead of relying on the things they saw on film and making adjustments accordingly. Once they got past their first two opening drives, TT made defensive adjustments while UO kept throwing darts at a play chart. Bo looked out of rhythm as the game progressed and his frustration came out with an ill advised pass that was picked off in the endzone (bailed out by replay) that should have been thrown away given the fact that they were in FG range to take the lead. Bottom line is that these players are not being coached very well in the little things.
No such thing as a bad win. I'm just adjusting my expectations accordingly now that we have seen what this team really is against a real opponent, hence my rant...

TTU had won 23 straight home openers. I realize we didn't look that good, but it was really our first game, since PSU was not even a scrimmage. Lubbock is one of the toughest environments to play in, and we won and covered. I thought the team showed a lot of heart. We'll see going forward.

The fact Oregon only scored a FG total in the 2nd and 3rd quarters speaks to your rant! 😁

The issue I have is TT didn't really do that much TO Oregon but rather the Ducks did most of the damage to themselves. Tough place to win or not(Texas went into Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama), that game was unnecessarily close at the end...but play calling, penalties, etc. gave TT a chance.

Certainly inexcusable sloppiness that needs correction on both sides of the ball. While the offense wasn’t as consistently electric as we have become used to (spoiled?) and Bo had that one bad throw, the PAC still gave him offensive player of the week. Middle game was poor, but he was pretty unflappable in that fourth quarter. That and turnovers overcame all the static and won the game. (Yes, with unneeded nailbiting!)
I think we overlook TT has two outstanding ILB’s that played up to their hype. That and they played the stem to perfection and caught the OL. Bo was barking at the officials over it multiple times. Legal I guess, and avoidable with practice. Lanning noted it in his post-game presser.
Not making excuses, but we can (and I think will) learn, move on and get better for it.
