I am having a hard time reading James Crepea's coverage of Oregon athletics. He cranks out a ton of coverage, but it's just so poorly written and filled with trite phrasing.
He wrote that Oregon is "being" Oregon State in that one. I thought he might get through a sentence in an article I read last night without an error, but he couldn't.
Daschel is a better writer and a more clear-headed analyst (although his OSU to the NCAA scenario is tired). Oregon deserves a better beat writer....

I think you wrote a fair assessment of Crepea. When the Oregonian was still allowing comments I didn't join in on the bashing of typos and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. The grammar police can get really annoying and mistakes happen, but the frequency of Crepea's blunders is too much for a professional.
I often find myself making similar mistakes and typos so I can relate to his struggles. The difference is I'm not a journalist by profession. To his credit I think the reduced staff on a shoe string budget is required to pump out a bunch of articles without proofreaders now days. It's an unfortunate state of affairs. We can certainly expect a higher level of standards and journalism though.

I agree that a few errors every now and then is acceptable, but I would like to see a bit more original writing, also. I haven't seen a legit interview from him in a while...

Oregonian is in a really bad way financially. can't afford editors or proofreaders. there's no filter to prevent someone like Canzano from publishing false or inaccurate information in a column, further damaging the credibility of The O. paper seems to be circling even further down the drain of crime, gossip, and salacious stories. earlier this week front page of the online edition was about the last porno theater from the 1970s. wow.
everybody makes typos, esp under deadline, but Mr. Crepea makes more than the average bear. you'd think, in these days of instant digital transmission, The O could find some low-paid intern proofers in Eugene or even at Portland State or U of P to give each piece the once-over before publication.

I overlook some of the errors by the fact that Crepea sincerely wants to churn as much info out there as fast as possible and keep Duck fans tuned into the O in general. He is not an insider by any stretch, anymore the insider news is provided by Mose.
O-Live itself has its days numbered. With no newsroom and no editor on site with the staff and such, it has become a catch-all of stories being cut-and-pasted from other sites by their "journalists." Cutting off comments and reader interaction was their death blow as that was really the only original thing provided by the site lately.

Duck Territory is full of typos too.

For me....FishDuck is the lowest standard possible...a website with college students as columnists; high school coaches as "experts," no access to players, coaches and administrators for interviews; no verification of facts presented and so on. The host is more concerned with people violating the commenting guidelines than accuracy of articles...so ANYTHING is better. In the case of OLive at least they provide first-hand coverage(at games, attending press conferences, interviews and so on). For "Senior Day" with the UO Women's Basketball they posted nearly 100 photographs! I agree with all the critiques here of Crepa, Canzano, etc. but the COVERAGE is what is most important to me. Plus we have this site to dissect ANY link posted from any site! :-)
