Saban retires

https://www.tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/college/football/2024/01/10/nick-saban-retires-alabama-football-coach-dynasty-national-championships/69675386007/

After a big news start to the sports world in the NFL Saban is done.

I thought he would've stuck around for at least a few more years.

Let's hope DL is solid as this is one of the few jobs that concerns me. He's sure to be at the very least a consideration and I'm sure we'll hear his name and any speculation

Lanning's name is at the top of the list.

Yikes, DL is the betting favorite to be Alabama's next head coach.

We'll see through. I think DL genuinely likes being in Eugene and was serious about not wanting to move his kids.

Re: Saban retires

I know it's Bama, but I truly believe Coach Lanning is going nowhere. He's said it time and again, he has what he needs right here. Besides, who wants to follow a legend. It does speak to his ability that Bama has interest: he's only been a HC for 2 years. My money is on him staying.

Re: Saban retires

Maybe they’ll hire Pete Carroll.

I really hope this isn’t why he was in Texas for the Natty. It would suck to have to start over again.

Also, is Dan experienced and proven enough for them?

I imagine the AD and boosters have already debated if DL has enough experience.

Looking at all sorts of SEC and national media I keep seeing a theme of DL being in everyone's top pick in addition to several other coaches that seem to vary. Some of them including Mike Norvell, Sark, and Lane Kiffin.

Diving in deep in the rumor mill people that examined flight logs have not recorded any flights from Eugene to Tuscaloosa in recent days.

For one DL may not be the top pick. More importantly DL very well is happy to stay with the Ducks.

I'm not rational in times like these!

The end of the world is nigh.

Nobody loves us and we don't deserve nice things. We'll end up with Wilcox after all.

Before Mario left Oregon, people were naming him as a likely successor to Saban. Maybe they’ll hire him, LOL.

Re: Saban retires

Good morning!

Yeah, I heard the news on local radio here in Jacksonville, and Lanning was immediately thought to be the #1 target for Bama. He has been unequivocal in his statements, and my gut gives me a better feeling about his commitment than Taggert or Cristobal. I hope it's the right intuition, because he is leaps and bounds better than either of those former UO coaches.

It's going to be fascinating to see how PK and Mullens circle the wagons on this one. I expect to see a bit of a pay bump, at the least, but we need to keep that $20 million buyout in place!

Go Ducks!

Re: Saban retires

I know the media isn’t always right - they’ve wrongly predicted Oregon HC hires often enough - but these are legit sources.

Of course, it could all be manipulated and planted by Lanning’s agent.

Good to see you PDX to JAX!

Up until this point Mullens has done everything possible to keep him around.

I wonder if Mullens and the boosters have known about the situation long?

That's really bad news. I'm not seeing anyone dispute the story yet. *edit: now I'm seeing some staff and players saying he was in Eugene with his family last night

Even worse I just looked at some SEC content and a lot of them are already saying DL is all but a done deal and it's coming from credible sources.

I have no stomach for another coaching search and change. My confidence is starting to wane on DL staying and I hope the rumors are wrong and I'm just jumping to conclusions from rumors too quick.

Hmm, almost sounds like ghost of DR past!  Cheer up DB, all blogging/influencer rumors. One of the things I detest most about “social dis-media”.

Hope you saw his X post. Exactly why players love him …. He’s the real-meal-deal. And a Duck. At least for now.
😁🥳
