The offensive side of the ball looks like the best in the nation. Sadiq and both Moore's are at the top of their position group. Stein's play calling made some good adjustments after Northwestern's secondary wasn't leaving many players open to start the game.
Speaking on the further Dante still looks like a top QB despite the late pick in his last drive. The wind was a major factor and as Dan Lanning said it wasn't a bad decision on his part. Despite the pick he still went 16-of-20 passes for 178 yards. Put aside his good play I'm starting to really like Dante's personality a lot. As Ducks fans I think we've been very fortunate to have so many talented QB's that are also of good character off the field. BTW I just heard Dillion Gabriel got in late and drove the ball down the field for a touchdown.
The RB room is deep, which should bode well for down the stretch. That said hopefully Noah's undisclosed injury isn't going to keep him out.
The run defense is the glaring concern and takeaway from the game for me. 178 yards is a lot to give up. Unlike the offense Tosh wasn't making the necessary adjustments early enough. It was a problem at times last year with the Ducks giving up a lot of yards on the ground. If you're looking for a bright side the first team defense only gave up about a 100 of those and the second team D was going up against Northwestern's starters. Still, this is an area for improvement. I wouldn't want to see a running team use this to drain the clock and slow the offense down. Kind of like how Stanford was able to get some wins against the Ducks under Chip.
The offense looks so good that the Ducks don't have to have the best defense to keep winning.
The Beavers didn't turn anything around and are a complete dumpster fire. I can't remember going into such a lopsided contest against them.
My posting on how bad the AP poll was good timing. This was never a close game with Northwestern scoring against backups and yet other teams like LSU and Georgia had bad teams score a lot of points and yet weren't penalized in the rankings. I think it will be good going into Penn State as an underdog anyway.
Questions:
Will Austin's injury be an ongoing problem? Moga is fine going in with a big league, but I rather not see him in there if say Dante get's hurt with another one of his head first dives he's done. I cringe every time he goes down head first as a runner.
Speaking of injuries is Noah's going to be a lingering one?
Can Tosh and the defense make better adjustments to shore up the run defense?
Will the Beavers find a way to play their best game against the Ducks like years past or is this team as bad as the look? My Beavs fan neighbor who's 71 and used to be a center said he's planning to drive to their next game to put himself in as he's sure he can do a better job😂
I feel like I'm missing a lot of takeways and questions, what's yours? Go Ducks!!!
