Playoff Bracket

https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2025-12-07/college-football-playoff-bracket-based-current-committee-rankings

The Ducks most certainly will be the #5 seed. Meaning that they will play the #12 seed which should be No. 25 James Madison (12-1), the Sun Belt Champion, or No. 20 Tulane (11-1).

I misspoke in my other post about the Ducks playing having to play the #1 seed in the quarterfinals as this wouldn't be until the semifinal if the Ducks could win against #4 Texas Tech in the quarterfinals. Indiana should be the #1 seed and the potential semifinal matchup.

We'll know in a few hours which opponent the Ducks should be facing the first round.

After watching Indiana and Ohio

Re: Playoff Bracket

Just watched the selections for the playoffs...seems Alabama is always guaranteed a spot! They got blown out yesterday but did not drop in the rankings. I understand a team should not be punished for playing in a conference championship game, but they got blown away and are 10-3. ND and BYU had only 2 losses.
Best thing that could happen is to eliminate the Conference Championship games. They do not count for anything. Glad the Ducks did not have to play yesterday which turned out to be a good thing. OSU and Indiana switched places. With the loss OSU may have an easier road to the finals. Anyway, GO DUCKS and hopefully their game against Madison is in the afternoon. Thoughts?

I'm with you on ending the Conference Championships is probably the best thing to do.

I was surprised to see Notre Dame left out, not that I like them. Bama getting favoritism seems like only one of the consistent things you can count on in college football.

For the Ducks game I'm thinking the 5 PST game locally would be ideal. Plenty of time for the fans to tailgate, but not so late to be a nuisance traveling back. Although for your sake I'm sure you would appreciate a little earlier slot for viewing purposes on the East Coast.  I know some folks like the late time slot for hosting, but I think 5 is plenty let. I know we have some lucky ducks attending the game.

It's a really exciting time to be a Duck

Re: Playoff Bracket

4:30 PM Pacific Saturday, Dec 20th. perfect for tailgating. week's worth of rain is supposed to let up that day.
7:30 PM Eastern, so the powers-that-be expect everybody to be tuned out by halftime. I was afraid we might get the Friday night game, which nobody likes.

UO Alumni Assoc was shooting out emails midday today w travel packages to Coral Gables for the Orange Bowl. not that we're overconfident or anything.

gonna get on some UW boards later tonight and find out where the watchparty for Dawgs v Smurfs in the Bucked Up LA Bowl by Gronk is being held. wonder if it will sell out?

J.D. gives a very optimistic take on Oregon's path and chances. I'm not sure if Oregon has the easiest path, but they definitely have the easiest first gave, which is huge to me.

Re: Playoff Bracket

Conference championships are worthless.  Minor bowl games now facing a death knell as teams opt out to recruit and work the transfer portal.  The B1G meant nothing.  The ACC was a joke.  The SEC meant nothing.  The Star Chamber decides this deal, and they have their individual motivations among the committee.

16 team playoff with top eight ranked conference champs hosting a first round game regardless of seeding after playing a nine game conference schedule, two weeks between regular season and playoff.  Quarters and semis at bowl sites and the championship game at a neutral site on New Year's Day.

Re: Playoff Bracket

#1 culprit to this mess was the goofy ACC conf-championship tie-breaker, which allowed 7-5 #42 Duke to play for and win the ACC championship. if there's not a clear head-to-head tie-breaker among the tied teams, then the highest-ranked CFP team should get the nod. that would benefit the entire conference in its quest to get as many team$ into the playoff as po$$ible.

in this instance, Canes would surely have disposed of UVa, and received an automatic bid. Notre Dame and Bammy as at-larges, and then Tulane as second5 12th seed, coming to Autzen for a much better game than JMU. and a stronger and more fair overall field.

so . . . Notre Dame joins the B1G along with Stanford, Cal, & Pitt, while Clemson, Miami, couple others bolt ACC for SEC . . .
twelve-team playoff. four guaranteed spots apiece for B1G and SEC. one guaranteed spot apiece for what's left of ACC, B12, and top-ranked second5. maybe one more at large for ACC, B12, or the Vandys of the world. games played in December.
