Normally I'd be researching about the Ducks next opponent. However, I'm still trying to digest what happened hlast game?
O-line: The line allowed 4 sacks and constant pressure that resulted in numerous throw aways and dangers passes into coverage. Specifically Ziyare Addison and Fox Crader were continently allowing edge pressure. Then you have the issue is that this line can't create a running lane. The poultry 90 yards on the ground was much the reason. This is also creating problems for Dante and the pass game. To make matters worse Ferguson is now lost for the season. We'll be seeing a lot of young players with now experience in. Other puzzling things like Iapani committing holds need to improve.
General Team Energy: Or should I say lack of. Just the general lack of enthusiasm makes you wonder. Did they believe all the hype and didn't show up with some fire to win? Is something going on behind the scenes?
OC's/Coaching: On the offensive side we're seeing sideways passes from bubble screens. Calling the same plays that the defense already covered the receivers running down the sidelines. Something else I believe I commented in the game chat that has been talked a lot about is how the other teams seem like they know the playbook and what play is being called. There's all kinds of videos out about how it's easy to tell from looks the O-line is giving and even Dante that is easy to read. The play calling on 3rd down's and then trying to go for 4th in longs is head scratching especially that one late in the game with plenty of time on the clock left. I could go on for a while about this, but I think most everyone agrees that Drew is over his ski's at this point.
Defense: What's with the veteran interior that was suppose to be one of the best in the country getting pushed around and not getting pressures? At times you wouldn't know the secondary had elite speed although they seem to not always pick up on receivers right away and not pick up the gap.
Dante Moore: He's not doing any better when under pressure this year. He's missing open receivers and throwing into multiple coverage. He's lucky he hasn't had more picks this season. Like the O-line gives I believe Andrew Nemec was the one that pointed out how he drops his back foot back on pass plays making for an easy read by the D. He's made some good throws too, but this post was to try to point out what went wrong.
Just general things like communication breakdowns specifically like a delay of game after a timeout is nauseating.
What are other people seeing and what did I miss?
It's just hard not to look at that game and have a lot of concerns and questions at this point. If I'm trying to find something positive the punting and I believe 3 field goals are a plus.
It's early in the season and there's plenty of time to right the ship. It just seems like the mistakes and coaching are worse than a couple years back when we almost dropped the first 2 Idaho games and then won the conference. I sure hope I'm wrong and will be eating crow later this year. I'm not sure how much we'll get from playing Portland State. Anything other than a blowout will be concerning. USC will be the real test. I'm hoping this team will get angry and come out ready to play against them.
