A warm welcome to Ducks fans

With the Oregonian disabling comments I thought this could be a perfect opportunity to still be able to comment and discuss Oregon Ducks football articles. Creating an online discussion thread on here offers the major benefit of keeping the discussions among actual Ducks fans and not puppet troll accounts. Any uncivil commenters and troll accounts can easily be terminated. The service is free and doesn't rely on Facebook either.

I went by Phil Collins on the Oregonian as many Ducks regulars might be familiar with. I'm eager to get the discussions going and hear fellow Ducks fans introduce themselves. I would love to hear your feedback on how to make things as enjoyable as possible for everyone. Being thrown off guard by the Oregonian comments being disabled I've not had much time yet to consider all angles and make this discussion thread be the best it can be. Please bare with me while we can figure everything out together. For the time being I thought posting new discussion threads directly linked to articles could be a good way to start. I would also consider passing off the Admin to someone down the line too. Let's get this started, Go Ducks!

Hey Phil. Cool idea.

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

Thanks! I'm thrilled to see you join. I imagine it might take a little while for people to make the jump and signup. Once we get a few other others the ball will get rolling.  I'm still figuring everything out on the forum, so far it seems pretty straight forward.

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

Hey Phil! I have only one concern: that eliminating trolls will become a full time job... let me know if I can help.

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

Thanks for setting this up and maintaining it. I am the poster formerly known as "The Orange Beavis" (Among others at varying times which were disabled due to snarky responses to you-know-who) - this name was chosen primarily to mess with you-know-who, and also it made me laugh.  Look forward to reading everyone's thoughts without the need to put that guy in his place all the time.

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

Thanks for joining Mike and MadDuck! I can quickly eliminate troll accounts with a couple clicks. I'll certainly take you up on your offer if I need some help. I use to work a job in quality assurance for software and had to scan and quickly correct problems. Perhaps my experience will serve me well for cleaning things up on the forum. For the mean time I might need some help with posting new discussion threads for new articles.

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

Glad you created this website! I never commented on posts on Oregonlive, but I've actively read them for at least 12+ years. I no longer live in Oregon, but the sports section always helped me to feel connected to my alma matter, and get different perspectives with Oregon sports.

Thank you for creating this site!

Glad to see you here! I always enjoyed your input. For less than 24hrs we're off to a good start. I'm expecting a lot more activity once comments are shut down on Olive.

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

Phil . . . thanks for doing this.  I'm genuinely disturbed that there will be no opportunity to comment on OLive, especially so close to the Rose Bowl.  Once again a handful of idiots has ruined something for others.

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

So true, Pete. I always enjoyed the local flavor of OLIVE. Good to see some solid fans have migrated here.

Phil, you are going to regret inviting me to this forum - the other dudes here are going to hammer you for that indiscretion.  Great of you to start it...but don't make the mistake of thinking I'm mellowing as I get older.

I can not possibly imagine a mellower, kinder, LQD. Wouldn't be the same

Re: A warm welcome to Ducks fans

Thanks for setting this up. I have enjoyed the comments section on Olive better than most articles and was sad it was leaving. It's a shame a news company based on users commenting had to get rid of comments due to people having different opinions than them. Unfortunately we won't get to see Ken Goe reply when he is getting roasted for pointless articles. At least we won't have to deal with that one crazy person who was obsessed with commenting and switching profiles.
