Ken Goe retiring!

For the most part I’ve disagrees with Ken, on his dislike of the Ducks as they’ve ascended and moved away from the “lunch pail” mentality that he loves, and more recently his coronavirus paranoia.

However, although I’ve disagreed with him - a lot, I always thought he was respectful and allowed for diverse opinions to be shared. I  always liked that about Ken, and how he could give and take a good natured ribbing.

Although, I doubt he visits here. Thank you Ken for your coverage over the years. Enjoy your retirement!

Re: Ken Goe retiring!

Agreed.  Until recently, I would read Ken's articles and enjoyed all the links he provided to other stories.  But things have changed this year.  The Oregonian stopped comments which I enjoyed reading from other Duck fans.  And as you said, he was one of many that got caught up in this covid pandemic.  It was very evident that he was a big Beaver fan and seemed to enjoy finding  fault with the Ducks.  Anyhow, it's all water under the bridge.  As one who has been retired for four years, I sincerely hope you enjoy your retirement, Ken and GO DUCKS!

Re: Ken Goe retiring!

very much enjoyed KG's work at The O, esp the I&A columns over recent years. he was always willing to engage w his readers.
I think he often adopted 'devil's advocate' stances (some of them anti-Duck, fer sure) to stir the pot and provoke response and discussion . . . and it worked, beautifully. it's a tough bidness generating a newspaper column nearly every day.
I don't think he pulled his punches on the Bevos, either. he was certainly willing to report accurately the crowd sizes in Reser when The O's OS beat writers avoided the subject.
not much left at the The O now. never very impressed with Crepea. Canzano quit years ago and just mails it in. maybe the Fent-man will be given a larger role and I'll have some reason to click.

Re: Ken Goe retiring!

Ken Goe is an old-school reporter with a great resume. I didn't always agree with his views, but he was amicable and accessible. He was also very good for much of his career. The errors showed up after he went fully digital. I read The Oregonian for decades, and his work was active, clean, and crisp.

Now, it is passive, error-riddled, and tired. I think that is part of the trade-off that we're now negotiating. It sucks.

He is a good news man and a good reporter. He is a great advocate for track and competitive running. I hope there is someone that can step into those gigantic shoes.

His eyore stories on Oregon notwithstanding, I thought he did a great job.
