Cristobal's new contract / Good Canzano column

I think this is one of Canzano's better columns i.e. a lot of good information with silly editorializing commentary at a bare minimum. It is hard to justify million dollar pay increases at this time even without athletic department money involved but that old adage of to make money you have to spend money rings true. Oregon is in a great position in my opinion with 4 very good head coaches in Cristobal, Graves and Altman...plus Johnson with track and field. All 4 of those sports can put people in the stands once that returns.  Plus there is no way Cristobal should have been #11 in the Pac-12 head football coaching compensation.

It is a good column noting the path of Mullens and the previous MAJOR mistakes with contracts for Helfraud and Taggart. Canzano also takes a not so subtle swipe at Larry Scott re Pac-12 finances. At some point no matter how often head coaches come and go(in football) and "great hires" arrive, the conference itself has to generate significant revenue too. The dollar amounts noted by Canzano for the SEC are staggering.

Go Ducks!

To win, you need a solid foundation.  Keeping coaches Cristobal, Altman and Graves shows how committed the school is.  Young men and women can see this as an opportunity for stability in attending a university.  Looking at this recruiting class (football and basketball) tells me the Ducks will be contenders for years to come.

Let it also be known that Mullens played the Mike White situation beautifully.  He dumped a lying sack (who ended up not getting his desired payday ) and in return got a solid coach of high integrity who has rebuilt the ship very quickly after all the defections.

Good point about softball...another sport which will "pack 'em in."

That transition from Mike White was messy; star players departing; rumors of the new coach being too religious...I wondered what was going to happen to the program. But yes it has righted itself and White has done no better at Texas either!
