He sure surprised me, and happily so..
Online!
He did so well there wasn't even a debate. HIs rookie stats have surpassed all kinds of QB greats.
Looks like he's going to get big Nike contract soon.
He can't shake the coach carousel curse though! Another head coaching change for him yet again.

There is some vindication here for Marcus Arroyo.
On a nearly weekly basis he was shredded on mainstream media and fanboy websites as jeopardizing both Herbert's college career, NFL Draft status and possibly even a pro career in general by how he was being coached and utilized.
He(Herbert) has certainly performed much better at the next level than the more decorated Mariota has after being coached by Helfraud.
In fact there is not a single Oregon QB from this century who has had a better start to their NFL career than Herbert.

always thought Herbs would do well on the next level, although nobody could have envisioned this. he had/has the raw measurables and the smarts. and he was fortunate to land on a team w a terrible defense that needs to score 30 to be in the game.
as I wrote ad nauseam on O-Live and other forums, Herbs never had top-flight receivers while in Eugene. Dillon Mitchell--a 7th-round draft pick who languished on the practice squad for two years before being released--was the best. and every time Herbs established a rapport with a Cam Breeland or Micah Pittman they would get injured.
and did I mention the drops?
DEFINITELY vindication for Mario and Arroyo. there were numerous critics, Canzano being among the most vocal, who opined that Cristobal and Arroyo were 'wasting Justin Herbert's talent'. and there were plenty of trolls on O-Live and even a few shout-show jokers who suggested that Herbs transfer out his senior season to a program that could better prepare him for the NFL.
