The result of excellent recruiting?

Unless it is something personal, I have to believe this transfer is all about MAYBE being able to hold onto your starting position for another season...maybe...but not next year.

I think this transfer signals the end of an era in Oregon football. No longer are we going to see a Kenjon Barner come to Oregon as a 3* defensive back and leave as of one of the top rushers in school history.

Cristobal is recruiting talent who can play immediately and make an impact. There will be fewer and fewer feel good "it took him 4-years to become a starter" stories.

The vast majority of college football teams could not afford to lose a player with so many positive stats and yet it feels like for Oregon, "Oh well, I guess Justin Flowe is now the starter."

This is why talent matters.

Sadly, he is indeed a casualty of talent, I believe. Both Flowe and Brown were coming for his job. I'm not so sure about the Barner analogy, tho. Look at Johnny Johnson..came here a 3 star reciever, but he's become a solid starter. I think there will be room for those kids, but as you say they will need to tough it out for awhile, which might not be the case due to the portal.

Re: The result of excellent recruiting?

That's too bad to loose such an experienced player. It's wild that a player like Isaac would probably have lost his starting spot this year. Something that wouldn't have happened in the past.

I'm a little surprised on the timing of waiting until now and wasn't expecting him to leave. The thought crossed my mind of J.T. Tuimoloau visiting recently and then canceling his Alabama visit. Could J.T. be coming to Eugene? Looking into the matter I'm still seeing the Buckeyes as the favorites as they already were and the visit went really well there. It probably has nothing to do with Isaac leaving now, but you never know. Has Andrew weighed in yet on the J.T. prospects after he cancelled the Alabama visit?

The Ducks should be fine as long as their LB's develop and stay healthy.

I probably wrote too specifically about the end of an era and JJ is a good example but he began his career under a different head coach. Kudos though to him for staying and developing his skill set.

It does make you wonder though, if JJ was coming out of high school as he first came to Oregon...would Cristobal even recruit him?

Cristobal has set his recruiting bar very high and while he will still take a "project" or two...I believe first and foremost he wants to START with talent that he can develop. He wants athletes.

I guess I am not expecting very many 3* recruits who are "good kids" and might develop into something special...to borrow typical coaching jargon.

Look how well Cristobal has done with Oregon not even making the playoffs?!? If Oregon starts becoming a playoff contender... whoa!

Yeah I was surprised by the timing too.

And JT cancelling the visit to Alabama was a shock. All the pundits had that visit as a HUGE advantage for the Tide going last as the stories are well documented of recruits sitting in Saban's office surrounded by trophies, rings and long lists of players drafted into the NFL while they talk with THE Nick Saban!

I am hoping the Oregon visit will keep him on the west coast!🙏

Re: The result of excellent recruiting?

Isaac Slade played some great snaps for UO during his time in Eugene; gave the Ducks some bulk in the interior, where he had 20-30 lbs on guys like K Apelu & Sampson Niu. I had my eyes on him for much of that fluky loss to Furd in Autzen (2018?); he more than held his own. wanted him in there the rest of the way v rush-oriented teams.
but now we've got a stable full of stallions and more on the way. hope he's all-conf this year wherever he lands.

if you've every wondered why Tree is Tree . . . cuz I always have.
