This is what NIL will look like!

I can see this happening in many shapes and forms. The guy pays(literally) 90 football players to promote his business. Like it or not...this is the new era of college football and I give him an A+ on creativity!

Re: This is what NIL will look like!

this is only going to get worse. I fear we're regressing to about 1962, when only 15-20 elite teams dominated NCAA college football.
Ducks have the financial wherewithal to play in the Bigs, mostly through the Nike connection, but there aren't the NIL opportunities in Eugene or Portland that players can find in a place like Miami or Los Angeles.

I don't expect the Pac-12 to survive until the end of the decade--2025 might be optimistic.
Oregon and SC to a western football super-conference with the Oklahoma and Texas schools. maybe UW and UCLA join them, maybe the Arizona schools (good geo fit). what's left of the Pac-12 will absorb teams like Fresno, UNLV, or SDSU. (Smurfs still don't have the academics).

WESTERN SUPER CONF
Pacific Division
UW
UO
USC
UCLA
ASU
U of A

Cactus Division
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St
UT-Austin
Baylor
Texas Tech
TCU
(maybe A&M will come back)

PAC-12 SUCCESSOR
Wazzu        OS
Cal             Tree
Colorado    Colo St
Utah           Utah St
Fresno St   UNLV
SDSU        Air Force

Re: This is what NIL will look like!

I don't share that pessimistic outlook.

Afterall, it is not like college football players haven't been paid(illegally) previously with the elite schools having the most to offer. To me, the NIL just legalizes what has been going on for decades...and thankfully there is little to nothing the NCAA can do about it because their "justice system" is a joke.

Plus I could make the argument the NIL is a perfect fit for the Pac-12 as we have schools in more major cities than any other conference...LA, SF, Denver, Phoenix, Seattle... certainly more potential NIL dollars than Tuscaloosa, Alabama or Columbus, Ohio or Clemson, South Carolina!

The Pac-12 is struggling financially for one key reason...Larry Scott's inability to create viable media related revenue streams(the Pac-12 administrators who oversaw Scott are also to blame as well)...but I am optimistic to see what Kliavkoff can do.

Remember too, this is college football so the players are going to cycle through and out i.e. all "short term contracts." And if a program slides downward, their goes the NIL money with it...I think.

As well I have read what Cristobal has told the Oregon players repeatedly as I am sure other coaches have too...they(players) still have to perform well, practice, maintain good grades, stay out of trouble off the field and so on...as all those issues determine whether a player remains on the roster or even gets to play in games. An NIL does not guarantee a player a spot on a team.

So yes, big learning curve ahead but the Pac-12 is in a reset / refresh mode which I am looking forward to seeing what happens before pushing the doom and gloom button.
