Looks like the Pac-12 is cooked

If it’s true that Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC, the Pac-12 will be an after thought. Which teams would the Pac go after? Most other teams on this side of the Mississippi are garbage.

This baffles me. TA&M is 0-4 against Bama, so it isn't working great for them, and I don't see Texas being a .500 team in the SEC. As for Oklahoma, almost zero chance of making the playoffs. It just doesn't make sense to me, but then not much does these days.

Re: Looks like the Pac-12 is cooked

Sooners and Horns are bound to the B12 by contract thru 2025; current Pac-12 media rights contract runs thru end of 2024. still would surprise me not if the end result were a merger of elite teams from both confs.

I think this could be a little rain-making dance coming out of Norman & Austin, signalling that they are unhappy w the current setup (she's sitting w her boyfriend, but she keeps looking over at you and smiling). maybe they're interested in realignment down the road, or maybe they just want better terms in the next B12 contract.

as ORG says, not much incentive for this to happen. easier path to the playoff by staying in the B12. peeps at A&M adamantly opposed. I would think lesser SEC teams (Vandy, GCocks, et al) would also be opposed, and might end up in the ACC.

landscape of college football is shaking like the Great Sonoran Terremoto of 1887. hang on to sumpin.

well OK . . .
UT-Austin and OU would owe the B12 $76 mill if they jumped to the SEC before 2025; chump change that they could easily recoup through enhanced revenues.
but 11 of 14 current SEC members would have to approve the move; we know fersure that A&M is a down vote.

Probably because the SEC rakes in a ton of money and get's major exposure.

Re: Looks like the Pac-12 is cooked

The conference which is cooked if this happens is the Big 12.

I can't help but think of when Nebraska left the Big 12 for the Big Ten and their football program has never been anywhere close to being as competitive as they were in the Big 12.

Yes the grass is always greener(more money) elsewhere but it doesn't ensure success.

Something tells me Sarkisian has mixed feelings...he had an opportunity to take Texas to a higher level in the Big 12 relatively quickly...good luck with that happening anytime soon in the SEC.

Oklahoma has been a perennial playoff contender in the Big 12...not convinced that will be the case in the SEC.

One school which could join A&M in voting against this happening is LSU...next door neighbor to Texas i.e. could lose some recruiting advantages.

Anyway, this is out of the control of the Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC...what matters more is what game plan they are creating right now. Welcome to your new job Commissioner Kliavkoff!!!
