SI Reports Notre Dame Wishes To Remain Independent

https://www.si.com/college/2022/07/04/notre-dame-preference-conference-realignment-independent-big-ten
Not at all surprising. Of course this is an unnamed source so we'll have to wait and see.

Would this mean there's no chance for the Ducks to join the B1G?

As some have suggested it's possible the Ducks could try to negotiate being let in at a reduced media payout rate for a specified period of time. This is where PK could step in. It may not really matter anyways.

Even if the Ducks got a reduced cut it would probably be a heck of a lot more than what they're looking at staying in what's left of the conference.

In other rumors Big 12 to Meet with Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah tomorrow. If the Ducks are out of the B1G and those 4 teams left things could get real ugly. I'm probably jumping to conclusions too quickly, it's hard not to though.

In other rumors the SEC and B1G would like to eventually expand the playoffs to a member only scenario.

The whole situation stinks. This isn't conference relainments like we've seen in the past. The massive media money combined with NIL makes this a whole different beast. If you're not getting good media money it's going to be hard to get decent players. Sticking around in a Pac with Mountain West additions will be like a minor league in baseball.

Hopefully this will all turn out a lot better than the direction this seems to be going.

UPDATE: Just after writing this I'm seeing Jeff Ermann from 247 posting about a source saying the Ducks are the B1G's number 2 target. I guess we'll just have to play to waiting game to see how this all shakes out.  See new TweetsConversatio      Jeff Ermann@Jeff_Ermann I was told this is - or is close to - the Big Ten's wishlist. But it's a fluid and very well-guarded process (How was the UCLA/USC news kept silent? Amazing.) So who knows how it'll develop. 1. Notre Dame 2. Oregon 3. Stanford 4. UNC Source not as confident in UNC as others.

Re: SI Reports Notre Dame Wishes To Remain Independent

I think it curious that Washington has seemingly disappeared in all of this hubbub.  Not surprising that the balance of the P12 South could dissolve into the B12.  Figured that the media deals would create a playoff field of members only, unsurprised by that rumor.

And yeah, the level of secrecy that was held by both schools and the B1G is astounding.  Normally in a conspiracy like this you have some sort of whistleblowing, but none here...

Staying tuned in...

Re: SI Reports Notre Dame Wishes To Remain Independent

There are so many rumors right now I just have no clue what to think. Neither Oregon nor Washington have said anything about this so far. I'm hoping for some answers soon.
