A decent read on whether Scott deserves the blame for the demise of the PAC. While I absolutely hold him most accountable, the University presidents share in the blame. The Olympic sports are great, but it's football that pays the bills.

good link, @ORG
every story needs a villain, and 'we tell ourselves stories in order to live.' but reality tends to be more layered and more nuanced than what can be shouted in a droplet on radio or cable TV.
so what if the P-12 had sold the company store to ESPN or FoxSports all those years ago? would the viewership and revenue numbers be better? would we have been treated to endless columns by Goe and CannedZano about how the conf prezzies had 'sold out', and network execs 3000 miles away were making decisions that affect UO and OS fans? would we have been able to watch 'minor sports' like softball or baseball as often? who knows?
some really good metrics in this piece regarding the 2021 college football season. avg number of viewers per week / per team for almost every CFP team, plus a list of games w over 4 million viewers (a benchmark, I guess). Ducks did quite well last year; W in Columbus helped.
metrics on avg viewership for the interval 2015-2019 aren't nearly as good. UO ranks 26th nationally; SC 16th, Tree 25th, UW 28th (Rose Bowl and CFB Playoff years). certainly underscores the case that P-12 football hasn't been a sizzling commodity since the Mariota Ducks in 2014.

1) Scott deserves the majority of the blame because it was his job. Part of the problem was, as this article notes, is what Scott DID NOT do.
2) But yes his "employers" who hired him and were far too hands off in holding him accountable through his 11-years i.e. change a game plan which isn't working(Scott with his tennis background knows this as well as anyone) are also to blame.
3) What also bothered a lot of people which the writer of this article skirted around is Scott rewarded HIMSELF very well from salary to office accomodations to presumed perks for this type of job...and at a level higher than any other P5 Commissioner...again thanks to his employers...while his efforts / results were clearly not working.
