Good for AB. I saw had a good start to preseason and it looks like he's still on a role.
For me this just furthers the notion Mario didn't develop, coach, and make effective offensive schemes for QB's.
AB gave it his all with the Ducks and conducted himself very professionally. He didn't have it easy always having to be a running back on the field and deal with play calls that would only create 1 receiver on the sidelines being open. On top of that the past couple of years have seemingly brought out the worst in people at times including a few of the boo bird fans AB had to deal with. I don't want to knock AB, but I must say I didn't think he had a future in the NFL. I pictured him in the Canadian League or something like that. He still has a long ways to go to not be cut and make a career in the NFL. I'll be rooting for him.
Having inexperienced coaches is certainly a major question mark going in the season. As some of you mentioned this should've been easily a top 10 question entering the season. A new coaching staff could really turn the offense around.
The ducks have a lot of talent at the WR and RB positions with a quality O-line. There's definitely a lot of potential here. I believe the RB's and receivers have more than enough talent to be successful. I don't believe the Ducks losing a lot of there scoring production on offense is an issue. It's not like they lost a bunch of high caliber NFL talent. Georgia lost 15 players to the NFL and I believe of few transfers too. And yet they're predicted to be a playoff team again.
Coaching and the QB position are what will make or break on the Ducks on the offensive side of the ball for the most part.
It still never ceases to amaze me how much of the analyst in sports don't know anything about the Ducks in the past few years. Last week I listened to a supposed gambling expert with a subscription site for expert analysis being interviewed on the radio. His take on the Ducks would be to bet the under if you had to because DL could end up being the next Willie Taggart. Fair enough, but here's what got me. He said it's also because Mario is a really really good coach and you don't know what you're getting now. Mario's a great recruiter and certainly not a really really good coach on the field in my opinion. Justin Herbert was made to be a game manager for the Ducks and is now considered one of the best new QB's. Now AB is looking great in preseason. It just all goes to show that the Ducks have a lot of room for concern, but also a lot of room to be optimistic entering the season.

I'll say this about inexperienced coaches. Honestly, I'm not sure it will be worse than the experienced decision making we had last year on offense, outside of the Ohio State game, obviously. It's like we managed to have one game where the offensive coaching was good and the rest of the season was pathetic.

AB hurt his throwing shoulder in the Stony Brook game, third game of the year. clearly bothered him next 7-8 games. if you look at the boxes until late Nov, you'll see his longest completions were in the 30s, often to Travis Dye out of the backfield. couldn't jack the ball deep w any accuracy.
Ducks were 73rd in the nation last season in Yards Per Completion. year before UO was 14th, led by future all-world NFL superstar Tyler Shough.
I think AB threw more INTs than any Duck QB in recent memory, altho I don't have stats handy. I do know he threw more DUMB INTs because I witnessed several. he struggled the entire year to recognize Ds, make reads, and find open receivers--and they were open. didn't help that he had a rotating cast of young receivers, D Williams who showed up sometimes, and Pittman who quit. nor an O-Coord whose bowels blew up early in the season.
I wish the man the best, but I see a prototype CFL QB. still pays pretty well.
maybe the folklore that Cristobal didn't develop players has some validity. or maybe he's a genius for getting Oregon to 10-2 last year w a gimpy and erratic QB.

Process Cristobal did better with the players he INHERITED than he did with the players he RECRUITED. Rose Bowl win in his 2nd year to getting stomped twice by Utah and leaving before the team lost in the Alamo Bowl last season.
Ironically while he asked the players to "trust the process" he was very reluctant to trust the players HE recruited i.e. no changes at QB; conservative play calling and so on. I also believe he had trust issues with his coaching staff in terms of letting them do their jobs.
I do not expect a continuation of those issues with Lanning. However Lanning is a rookie head coach and I do anticipate first-time head coaching mistakes...how much they impact the season remains to be seen.
So Process Cristobal's "bad coaching" is different than Lanning's will be...I assume.
Nick Saban spent 5-years at Michigan State and was in his 4th year at LSU when he won his first National Championship.
Kirby Smart coached 5-seaaons at Georgia until he won a National Championship.
For Dabo Swinney it was 7-years at Clemson before his first National Championship.
My deepest appreciation for Cristobal is he proved very strongly that recruiting is important but by no means guarantees anything.
Head coaches have to learn how to be a head coach.

AB cut by the Ravens, but he was able to get some decent tape in the NFL and I think will find another place soon to hold the clipboard.
I know a former AD employee who basically stated that MC is a hyper-micromanager and has to have his hands directly in everything- everything- related to his team functions and operations. We know these guys and they do not lead as much as boss and control. Said this before, but I think the not so secret secret after the Buckeye victory was that the band was going to break up at the end of the season and the players just lost their collective edge and passion as well as the coaches. That said, I am glad the page turned and we no longer have to watch football as it was before the forward pass was legalized.
I am thinking the over/under this season is 8 wins. But the sky is the limit if this team catches fire and stays healthy.

Thank you for confirming why I pay zero attention to preseason games and the news which surrounds them. Those are games which allow "extras" to play so starters and key players don't get injured...plus they put some pocket change in the coffers of the owners.
