Fired with a winning record no less…🥸

State of WA now officially 0-2 in head coaches finishing the year….

Bummer. Now they may hire a real coach.

Never happen(Kelly as the OC)...2 alphas...MC is way too controlling of a head coach to bring in someone who would want near autonomy as Kelly with the offense...plus MC is too insecure to allow an OC to implement an offense that has as many differences if not more than similarities as his own preferences. Bellotti gave his OC's GREAT freedom to implement their brand of offense...MC is not even in the same universe in that context. As well, Kelly is a notoriously "iffy" recruiter and to coach for Oregon you have to recruit recruit recruit.

I'll bite...

I can see a scenario at some point where MC will leave and the possibility that UF or LSU would back the truck up as soon as this month at MC's door where UO had no ability to match.  If that were to occur, I could see the UO definitely poaching UCLA to get Kelly back, but with much better resources to recruit and the same kind of long leash to be Chip.  Rather that than see Chip go to UW, which I also think is something being bandied about by Husky boosters...

As an aside, while Duck in Mountain is awesomely passionate about breaking down the playoff scenarios, I am wildly entertained and enthused by watching the coaching carousel...

Re: Trouble in Husky Land; Lake Fired

@ JJ You called it. I didn't think they'd want to eat the 9 mil left on his contract.

Like you said KONA it may not be a good thing in the long run.

With the 3 HC's spots open right now how do you their favorability among candidates? Outside of biased fans I think most everyone would agree 1. USC, 2. UW, and 3. WSU. I think the big gap is WSU being the far less desirable location. USC isn't what it used to be and all kinds of potentials already said they aren't interested. How well is the UW job considered? Will they be inclined for a cheaper options since they're on the hook for the 9 mil?

This is just the start and I'm sure we'll see at least another HC job in the Pac with numerous coordinators and assistants changing it up.

Re: Trouble in Husky Land; Lake Fired

random, desultory, and only casually related thoughts on a Monday; my mind wanders . . .

I can't see Mario leaving Eugene anytime soon. maybe 4-5 years, but not now, no matter the $$. the cupboard is full for the next few years. don't see nobody in the P-12 rising anytime soon to impede UO's path to the CFB playoffs or NY6 bowl. from what I hear, he & Jess love it in Eugene. and he's seen up-close in the SEC that you can win a NC one year and get fired two years later. tough bidness down there (Coach Taggart on Line 1.)

I do expect several assts to leave at end of season. Moorhead is a hot commodity as a HC prospect, provided his health is OK. the rest, well, that's just the nature of the game these days. Big Joe would make a fine DC; he should get a look from Zona, Wazzu, and maybe even OS. I'll miss him more'n anyone if he leaves; his connection with the Poly kids and his enthusiasm are irreplaceable.

I don't see Chip leaving BruCru. I know everybody says he's on the hot seat, but win the Crosstown and then beat Cal makes 8-4, w three losses to Top 25 (UO, Fresno, Utes). not all that bad of a season. def can't see him at UW or an OC somewhere, esp in Eugene. that song's already been sung.

only thing that chafes a Dawg fan worse than losing to Oregon is losing a local kid to Oregon, like Iuli. lose a game to the Ducks and it stings for a year; watch Jonathan Stewart gash you for 160 one year and 259 in Husky Stadium the next is unbearable. next HC in Montlake is likely to bring a reputation as a recruiter, so Dawg fans can whine about his play-calling.

OK . . . Justin Wilcox to UW, freeing up Bill Musgrave to become OC and QB coach at UO if Moorhead leaves.

anybody who called Oregon State Ws over SC, UW, Utes, and Tree while the bevos lost to Colorado, Wazzu, and Cal . . . raise your hand.

great night in Autzen Saturday (read on Crapzano that the broadcast on ESPN wasn't so hot). the Duck secondary--other than a coupla blips--had things locked down all night. there was nowhere for #4 to go, except running for his life from Kayvon, Brandon, or Popo. Duck D took away Wazzu's bread-and-butter w constant pressure up the middle (which is why those Coug draw plays worked so well).
we haven't been this strong at corner since Ifo, Troy Hill, and T-Mitch. Cougs have some tall receivers with NFL po. Verone playing w a lot of confidence at safety, and plenty of quality reps from others there.

got home about 1:30 a.m. to a happy wife--KP settled and there's no strike. GO DUCKS!

Re: Trouble in Husky Land; Lake Fired

Nobody asked me, but a few days ago i said in another thread that Lake would not be coaching next season in Montlake. Didn't expect it to happen so quickly though.

But when i have a strong gut feeling it's usually 100%. During the brief Taggart  era I said he was gonna be gone soon and I accurately foretold early in his lone season in the OLive comments days that he certainly had "the recruiting prowess." A vocab word that nobody else was using anywhere at that time. And that Canzano immediately picked up on and the word started going viral. Ironically, Lake used that term against the U of O and it backfired in the court of public opinion, hastening his exit.

Anyways early during that lone season I wrote in a comment that his tenure would be short-lived in Eugene. Ken Goe immedeately challenged my comment on the grounds that he was still owed a lot of money on his contract. I retorted to Goe, emphatically that something is gonna happen with this guy,  He of course bailed out on the team to go to Florida St in a sleazy way.

Then i was all over Arroyo the following season like a cheap suit, saying that he needed to get fired for his crappy OC schemes with Herbert as his prize Qb,. His buddy Cristobal ultimately didn't have to fire him because  Arroyo quit and took the head coaching job at UNLV where at one point this season he was winless in 1.5 seasons there with a 0-10 record. Gotta see how he has done the last few weeks there.

As far as Cristobal goes, i've grown fonder of him. Unlike commenter Ducks Reign, I see him as highly capable as a leader of the Duck football program. And the program is enjoying success this season and i'm having fun with it.

Go Ducks, beat Utah and keep it rollin'.
