Chip interviewing for Seahawks OC

https://www.oregonlive.com/nfl/2024/02/seattle-seahawks-interview-chip-kelly-for-offensive-coordinator-position-report.html

I thought Chip would stick around for at least one more year. It’s not totally surprising. Considering the modern college game isn’t suited for a coach that doesn’t want to spend a lot of time recruiting. I think he’d make an unbelievable college OC, but understandably wouldn’t want to take a demotion if he gets the job.

It will be interesting to see how he can do on the NFL level just as an OC and not a head coach. From what I read before a lot of the players were turned off by things with his demands of sleep, tracking, and being forced to drink custom-made smoothies and what not.

Good move for Chip.

Head coaching is not up his alley. He caught lightning in a bottle for a few glorious years at Oregon and has flamed out since. I think he could find his mojo again as an NFL OC.

Re: Chip interviewing for Seahawks OC

Apparently he is heading to tOSU as their OC.

While happy for UCLA fans that wanted him gone (feeling appears mututal), that program is going to take time to recover and this ain't that time...

Wow, I haven’t caught up with the news yet. I’m technically still at work!

To me, this seems like an ideal situation for him. He’ll have other people around him to help him with recruiting, and he can just focus on the offense.

To Game plan and style is better suited for college.

Re: Chip interviewing for Seahawks OC

UCLA really messed up not firing Chip this season.

The whole world could see he was failing and losing interest in the job, yet the Bruins kept him on. Now they will be scrambling for scraps in the head coaching ranks.

Has a head coach ever willingly given up their post to be an OC for a peer institution? That's just kind of pathetic. I've never really liked the Chipster. I mean, I loved the few killer years he provided us here at Oregon, but I just never loved the "dude". Hated his schtick, hated the stupid answers to questions, hated the way he talked out the side of his mouth like he had bad breath or something. Hated that he brought sanctions on our program. The whole WTD thing got very old. Oh, and maybe most of all, his damn visor. Guy's that wear visors have a special place reserved in hell as far as I'm concerned lol.

I hope Chippy fails miserably in Columbus. Hope we kick the shit out of the Buckeyes when they visit Autzen next year. God that would be sweet!!

So how do you really feel...?

I think most critical fans realize that it wasn't Kelly who built the program into a title contender, it was Bellotti.  And with recruiters like Campbell, Greatwood and Pellum carried over once Bellotti was pushed out, in hindsight it allowed for Kelly to simply coach, and the football world had not caught up yet to his blur (minus Stanford)...  He did great things for the program and etched his and Oregon's place in college football history before he bolted for different pastures.  Don't think he ever felt comfortable as a HC, similar to his successor, and to see him make this move this week seems to be the best logical move for him at this point.  That said, I think he is a top 3 coach in Oregon history and I have nothing but respect for his accomplishments because it was such a fun freaking ride for those years...

A question I wonder about is why Helfrich never landed a OC job after the Bears.  He is a bright mind and a great human being and woudl be an asset to a program...  is it that he is a terrible recruiter in the day of the portal???

Lol. No Super hard feelings against Chip. I just was never in love with the person the way everyone else was. Sometimes I just carry on a bit....

Hmmm, good question about Helfrich. I too believe he is/was an excellent OC. I am basing this on nothing but my own opinion: I think the Oregon experience was damaging to his psyche and his spirit. He was an Oregon man through and through and his failure at and discarding by Oregon kinda ended his career. I think Oregon was the dream gig and well,,,,,the dream died. I really have no hard feeling towards him at all. He was just in over his head. But one thing he brought us no other coach has was a CFP appearance and win! That will always be a feather in his cap and is certainly something I think we can all respect.

Oh, and recruiting, coaching Oregons only Heisman winner! Pretty darn cool.
