Being retired, my life consists of my wife and I going to doctor/dentist appointments, grocery shopping, credit union and the post office. I didn't want to pull weeds or stack firewood today so I decided I would do an in-depth look at the Ducks five playoff games. Listed below are the infielders/outfielders who played and how many games.
Anson Aroz 5
Bryce Boettcher 5
Carter Garate 5
Maddox Malony 5
Chase Meggers 5
Mason Neville 5
Drew Smith 5
Bennett Thompson 5
Jacob Walsh 5
Justin Cassella 3
Jack Brooks 2
Ryan Cooney 1
Dominic Hellman 1
PITCHERS - games played and number of pitches
R. J. Gordon 2 219
Grayson Grinsell 2 199
Kevin Seitter 1 128
Logan Mercado 2 121
Brock Moore 2 74
Ryan Featherstone 2 64
Turner Spoljaric 2 28
Cole Stokes 1 21
Jaxson Jordan 1 19
That equals 13 infielder/outfielder players and 9 pitchers for 22 players. In an earlier post, I mentioned that the NCAA limits roster's to 27. So five players on the roster did not play. How many were pitchers? I tried searching to see what players made the final roster but didn't find anything. Pitchers Gordon, Grinsell and Seitter are all starters, so Coach Waz went with only six relievers in five playoff games. Hard to believe there wasn't a guy or two in the bullpen who could throw a few pitches instead of the relievers who couldn't find the plate. Ok, on to the games.
Game one Ducks 5 San Diego 4 (11) Ducks played 9 players and 3 pitchers. Total number of pitches thrown by Oregon was 178. San Diego used 6 pitchers and threw 153 pitches.
Game two Ducks 2 UCSB 1 Ducks played 11 players and 2 pitchers. Oregon threw 150 pitches. UCSB used 4 pitchers and they threw 135 pitches.
Game three Ducks 3 UCSB 0 Ducks played 9 players and 1 pitcher. Oregon threw 128 pitches. UCSB used 3 pitchers and they threw 124 pitches.
Game four Texas A&M 10 Oregon 6 Ducks played 9 players and 4 pitchers. Oregon threw 195 pitches and Texas A&M threw 152 pitches.
Game five Texas A&M 15 Oregon 9 Ducks played 13 players and 5 pitchers. Oregon threw 212 pitches and Texas A&M threw 177 pitches.
In Oregon's five playoff games, Duck pitchers threw a whopping 863 pitches! The opposition threw 741. In the five games, Duck pitchers averaged 172.3 pitches per game. The opposition average 148.1 per game. Oregon's hitting and fielding were pretty good this past season, but the pitching has got a long ways to go before the Ducks can be a legitimate contender. One final note: Dominic Hellman only played the last game. He was the DH and these are his stats: At bat 4 times, scored a run, had three hits, two rbi's, one walk and one strike out. Why the heck wasn't he in the lineup every game? Ok, time to pull some weeds and stack firewood.

Lol.
I love it. I appreciate the stats and the effort!! Hopefully pitching recruiting can improve going forward,
I'll be 58 in August, and believe me, I would LOOOOVE to pull weeds and stack wood at home than going to work each day. I can't see myself working a day past 65 even if I have to move into a deluxe cardboard box.
Then again, my yard is so big I use a lot of Roundup. Hopefully I make it to retirement before I get lymphoma and croak!😄☹️

Great reply, Duckball. Hey man, enjoy your "youth!" I'm turning 74 in July. Every morning I wake up with a new ache and pain. I wonder...where the hell did that come from?! I worked two jobs for 48 years. I started working at 18 and retired at 66. So I'm enjoying the 'fruits of my labor' but doing anything I want. Switching gears, it was disappointing to see N'Faly Dante being denied another year of college eligibility. Cam Rising is in his 6th year with Utah. And Cam McCormick is in his 9th year with Miami. It's obvious the idiots in the NCAA don't know what their doing. I know your not a big Dana Altman fan, but I'm confident he can find someone to help the Ducks on the court. My concern is, can the Ducks be healthy this year entering the B1G. Well, I haven't decided what I'm going to do today. I might sit outside, enjoy an adult beverage or two and watch the weeds grow!" Take care, man.

I salute you beupivi! 🙂👍
Man, now that's a life that deserves a little bit of "doing whatever the hell you want"! I'm happy for you.
As far as Dante, yeah. Why does Oregon always seem to get the shaft on these deals?? There are even many more instances of an uneven playing field than the ones you stated. The NCAA is just so incompetent and corrupt it's quite breathtaking when you look at it on the whole for all these last few decades. I've long been a holdout, but I think it's really past time it dissolves completely. Into what? I don't know. But something more equitable, consistent and just, I hope. (Yes, I'm a bit naive and a hopeless romantic lol)
Funny about Altman.
It's not that I'm not a fan. I do truly love Altman for the man and person he is. He has achieved greatness here at Oregon. He is a character guy and a loyal guy which I respect immensely. It's a top quality in a coach and as a human. As I've said in the past, he is a Hall of Famer and it's a travesty he is not already in the club like several other active coaches are. I just think the game has passed him by a bit. He's too old school and stubborn in his thinking. Too set in his ways. He is just so darn humble and quiet and not a rah rah guy. I mean, he probably spends his evenings quilting with Reva which is cool.....but I want new blood. New energy. New ideas. New coaches. New attitude. Someone that can get the fans excited. Pac the Matt (that stale morgue is a whole other story) someone............like Dan Lanning!!!!!!!!
That's what Oregon needs. A basketball version of Dan Lanning!
Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOO
