OK, this is a speculative thread and I'm going to revive it. Akili Smith just tweeted out something that has been on my mind the past couple of days. Why haven't we heard anything about Oregon's new OC? Is it possible that they're waiting until AFTER the NC game to announce it? Hmmmmm....

Anyway, tomorrow's the NC game but it's also a huge day for Oregon fans. The 4 early draft considerations are holding a conference at 11:00 AM to presumably announce their decision. I think they're coming back but we'll soon see. It would be amazing to have these 4 back to help develop all of that young talent. And then in the next day or two, we may be hearing who Cristobal has selected to be the new OC.

GO LSU! I hope their offense looks amazing.

I’m still liking J Munoz.

I too like Munoz. It does seem strange that with Moorhead here all weekend, nothing was done. Hoping all 4 return, tho maybe Scott is gone. I feel he could benefit from another year, but he has his degree.

There has been speculation Cristobal is waiting until after the CFP championship game, especially if he's chosen Jorge Munoz.  But, then there's been speculation about a number of different candidates for quite a while.  Supposedly, Moorhead was at Oregon recently.  I think Cristobal is being thorough and not feeling rushed.

Re: New OC search

This guy appears to be another good candidate. I love the report in the Yahoo article that...

"In the 2019 Camping World Bowl, Rees was given the opportunity to call plays for the first time in an audition of sorts for the Irish's vacant offensive coordinator position following the firing of then-Irish OC Chip Long. The Irish blew out Iowa State 33-9 and averaged 7.0 yards-per-play for a total of 455 yards of total offense." Iowa State had a pretty decent team. It did lose 5 games but they were all close games to very good teams. They lost to Oklahoma by 1, Baylor by 2 and beat Texas, who just smoked Utah. 7 yards per play and 455 yards of offense is an impressive audition.

Separating fact from rumor for a minute, one thing that has become clear...Mario is taking his usual, methodological and patient approach. He's doing his homework and evaluating things very carefully. He's evaluating several very good candidates. And in the end, this quality of hard work in every phase of his job may go further than who actually ends up as the next Duck's Offensive Coordinator.

I agree with everything you wrote.  Cristobal doesn't appear to feel rushed.  I thought he might if he was looking for help in recruiting, but it looks like he did just fine.

If others out there are like me, then the O live folks made a big mistake in getting rid of the comments.  I didn't realize until now, that I would get on their site more to read the comments than to read the articles.  Barely go there now.  Good to see everyone here!

Agree Norm. I go days w/o reading the O at all. The comments were always a better source of news, especially local.

I'm here more often. I still go to Olive just for the Goe and Crepea info.

I'm enjoying this board a lot!

Re: New OC search

After tonight, is there any question that there's a world of difference between LSU and everyone else? Clemson came out fired up but LSU methodically took over. Their offense was amazing - I don't know that I've ever seen anyone better.

That being the case, could Jorge Munoz carry that level of play calling, training/teaching, organizational skills over to the Ducks? That's a tough call. I think he's been very good in his current role and he's certainly benefited being around the best in the business. He's credited with having a big hand in Burrow's development. But it's also a leap going from offensive analyst to offensive coordinator.

I don't envy Coach in making this decision. Making judgements about whether or not that can all translate over is going to be a huge decision.

Agree.  It appears Cristobal has some really good candidates for the OC position.  None of them jump out as 'must hire' more than the others.  Each has their strengths.  We'll see.  I think we may know by the end of the week.
