Offensive Coordinator Hired

Per 247 (and others), Joe Moorhead will be the new OC for Oregon.

I'm pretty stoked. This is a home run hire (as Jorge Munoz would have been). It appears the Ducks actually beat out the NY Giants for the hire! It appears Andy Avalos now has his counterpart equal.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

Who knows what the offense is going to look like at Oregon. But I found this analysis of his days at Penn State. It's a couple of years old.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

I preferred the idea of Munoz, but this is someone who has had proven good success at the power 5 level.

I really liked Munoz too, especially after watching LSU yesterday. But I had one big concern with him - and maybe this was a concern Mario had as well. How would his experience as an analyst translate over to his job as an offensive coordinator? There's a world of difference (obviously) and not everyone can make that jump. At the very least, it's going to be a risky hire.

Coach Cristobal certainly had in-depth interviews with both of them and came away believing the Ducks were better off with Moorhead. For some reason I wasn't asked to interview either one, so I'll have to lean on coach's expertise on this one.

Yeah, with everything we've seen, hard to imagine Cristobal not doing his due diligence.

I’ve lost faith in those guys at Duck Territory in regards to the OC search. They seem to be pushing for Moorhead.

I just don’t like the way he was fired. Too soon to have him as the Duck OC. I’m pulling for Munoz or Fisch. Get a new up-and-comer in the fold, like Mike did in hiring Chip.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

I like that he has been coaching about 20-years and except for his time as the head coach at MSU, it has all been on the offensive side of the ball at all positions.

This past season MSU was 7th(out of 14 teams) in Scoring Offense in the SEC  and the teams ahead of them were LSU, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M.

Andy Avalos was not unemployed at the time Mario Cristobal hired him; Joe Moorhead was and we know Avalos was a great hire. I am hoping Cristobal's propensity for due diligence and thorough research in hiring will make Moorhead a great hire too! Go Ducks!

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

Well, with J Brady leaving lsu for the NFL Panthers, my guess is J Munoz will be retained by the tigers.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

ScoopDuck is also reporting the J Moorhead hire.

https://scoopduck.com/s/3992/report-oregon-tabs-joe-moorhead-as-offensive-coordinator

What’s odd is this write up is dated Jan 11th.

I have yet to hear MC say Moorhead is the one. Even the R-G this morning seems to be hedging. While it seems there is plenty of smoke, I'm going to wait for an official announcement.

While I agree that it isn't official yet (and anything can happen until it is), Bruce Feldman from Fox Sports seems pretty sure. Last night he tweeted (several hours AFTER the Oregonian article hit):

"SOURCE: Former PennState OC and Miss. State HC Joe Moorhead has agreed to become the new offensive coordinator at Oregon although I am told that nothing has been signed yet. Brett_McMurphy first reported that Moorhead was getting the job."

In other words, the terms are agreed upon but the deal hasn't been inked yet. Then this morning he doubled down:

"Among the OC candidates for the Oregon vacancy, am told that Tulane's Will Hall, Rams asst Jedd Fisch and LSU analyst Jorge Munoz really impressed in the interview process before Cristobal opted to go with Moorhead."

I'm also seeing other outlets report it and nobody, not Mario, Moorhead or the University is disputing it. So while nothing's done until it's signed, it sure seems to be likely to me. I guess we'll see.

UPDATE: The Oregonian updated their story, to include the Feldman report.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

Goe's I&A column today implies it's still unofficial, undecided, etc. about Moorhead being hired as Oregon's OC

Stay tuned folks.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

Just read Goe's column...nothing "official" yet. I have standard when it comes to recruits i.e. once they are enrolled; attending class(hopefully) and practicing then they are "officially" a Duck...I  guess the same standard should apply, relatively speaking to the hiring of a new coach.

But Goe noted, both Feldman and McMurphy are "very good and very well-connected" so I assume their word is reliable. I guess we will find out soon!
