“I think we all agree”

John Canzano constantly talks about how the “top three” were just another tier. So my question is, if we eat tOSU next fall, will he finally shut up about how we can’t play with the “”big boys”?

My thoughts exactly. JC will never shut up. Guy has no shame. If we beat tOSU, he'll write a column insisting he saw it coming.

Re: “I think we all agree”

I've usually been on the side of defending Canzano because I know he is a talented columnist on the sports scene in Oregon and beyond. Yeah he ain't perfect but His Larry Scott/PAC12 series last year was really top notch IMHO. With that said, I came away from this article feeling like he's stirring the pot of the Ducks are not elite yet meme. He's sort of beating up on the Ducks while the team just finished strong. Sort of remnants of Luther. I'm sure our basement dweller buddy enjoyed it.

And so the Ducks might not be elite yet as the devils advocate theme goes, but as our veteran commenter "oldretiredguy" said, If we beat Ohio State next September than JC will say he "saw it coming". Or he switches gears and changes the narrative to "Win over Ohio State Shows Ducks Have Arrived."

Re: “I think we all agree”

Tired of the whole “elite” deal.  The game has changed and will do so even more once players begin to be compensated for their names and likenesses.

Regarding JC, he is not the insider he thinks he is.  His access is very limited and those conversing with him are very measured if they agree to go on the record.  That said, his P12 work is good and sheds a lot of light as to why the conference is treated as a mid-major by the other P5 conferences and media.

Canzano may not be well liked but he does have good penmanship even if fans don't agree with him. He is paid to give his opinion and he gives it. I can give or take his opinion but I don't  disrespect him for doing his job. There are John Canzanos in the SEC and ACC areas also. Some writers? are really brutal, especially against the coaches. Nature of the trade.

Re: “I think we all agree”

My issue with Canzano is that I believe many of his articles are designed to capture readers by being as provocative as possible. He'll take a truth and exaggerate it / blow it out of proportion just for clicks and comments (although that's gone now). Probably a good guy. I just don't care for some of his methods.

Re: “I think we all agree”

I've usually considered Canzano a sports 'personality' more than a sports 'writer'.  So much of what he writes and says seems to get reactions and responses from listeners and readers rather than to inform and educate.
