Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

Multiple sources now reporting that Moorhead to Oregon is a done deal..including James Crepea, John Canzano and others.

I really like this hire but I also know Mario was looking at 4-5 really, really good candidates. Excluding his role as a HC, Moorhead has an impeccable record and has improved offenses dramatically wherever he's gone. He's described as being innovative and aggressive...and a very good recruiter who relates well. His time at MSU was a mixed bag, but not every assistant is cut out to be a HC either.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

I am reasonably enthusiastic about Moorhead as OC.  I think he did a great job at Pen State; however, his time at Mississippi State is less than stellar.  Also, I don't think he's a long-term hire.  If he does well . . . and I'm have no doubt we all hope for that . . . he'll stay for two years.  I think he wants to be a head coach, but he needs something to get him back on his feet after his time at Mississippi State.

Below is what was written about Moorhead in USA Today the day he was fired.

Moorhead's tenure will be remembered for Mississippi State's shortcomings on offense, especially in the passing game. The Bulldogs ranked No. 112 nationally in passing offense in 2018 and No. 110 this season. Mississippi State did not exceed 240 passing yards in any single game this season in finishing No. 12 out of 14 teams in the SEC in passing offense. Moorhead was hired because of his success as the offensive coordinator at Penn State from 2016-17. Before then, he was the head coach at Fordham from 2012-15 and led the Rams to three FCS playoffs. Mississippi State had the 71st-ranked total offense in 2018 and was No. 70 this season.

Well, whatever we think about this hiring, it's going add a whole new layer to the Oregon-UW rivalry. Should be entertaining, to say the least.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

It sounds like Moorhead likes to run his QBs. Tyler has some ability there, but does this give Millen more of a chance to be the starter? I doubt Ashford will be ready as a freshman, but it also opens the door for him, and maybe shows some of MC's thought process in recruiting him.

Interesting podcast on the Moorhead hiring.

It's OK to get very excited about this hire!

I'm not going to believe it until it's posted on goducks.com. R Moseley isn't in the business to "scoop" anyone. He just reports the facts, and there is nothing confirmed by the UO athletic department so far.

Re: Offensive Coordinator Hired

Sounds like a ton of people really like being around Moorhead. Sounds like he likes to have a lot of fun and genuinely cares about people. He does have a proven record of success. Two things... no more Pistol and will MC get out of the way and let Moorhead do his thing? From what I see the guy can coach. I am excited to see what he can produce on the field. Does anyone know if he can recruit?

He has a reputation as a recruiter and as someone who relates well with the recruits & players.

This article from a Bulldogs beat writer addresses Moorhead and mentions his recruiting style:

Sounds like a win for UO football. Maybe this hire, Moorheads ability to put guys into the league, will lure in a couple blue chips by signing day. Another thing that will be interesting is how he develops QB's. UO is starting new at the QB position and us fans will be paying extra close attention to their progress. The Defense should take some pressure off but Duck fans (myself included) want to win now.

Sounds like a good guy and a fine coach. It was interesting to see Canzano's piece where they ranked coaches by analytics. Takeaway is that the transition away from Arroyo to Moorhead is a big win fo UO...

The more I read about Moorhead the more I like him. MC keeps taking huge steps forward. It's impressive to see the UO program separate itself from that 4-8 season by such large margins every year. The future is looking great for the Ducks and their fans. Not being satisfied with a #5 finish says all we need to know about UO football.
