Assuming Moorhead is official, he will bring an interesting new dimension to the Oregon-UW rivalry. Most of you probably already know this, but just in case, here it is.
John Donovan, just hired by UW to serve as their OC, was the Penn State OC in 2014 and 2015. He was fired after their offenses finished 114th and 105th in the nation. Who did Penn State bring in to replace Donovan? That's right - Joe Moorhead. The same Joe Moorhead who just landed the OC gig at Oregon.
How did that work out? In his two years at Penn State, Moorhead's offenses were ranked 4th (in total defense 2016) and 7th (scoring defense in 2017). He was awarded the 2016 and 2017 National Offensive Coordinator of the Year and in 2017, he was selected as the Sports Illustrated and Yahoo’s No. 1 rising assistant in college football.
I'm sure Donovan has learned a lot during his coaching gigs since Penn State. But this is why so many UW fans are freaking out about the respective OC hires. And it will add an interesting twist to the Oregon-UW game.
