I get this is a Duck forum, but I think the group here has a lot of water under the bridge together in discussing other sporting topics.
Is this dead or is it just me picking up and nursing that vibe? I get the feeling that it is only a matter of time before this whole deal is kiboshed, very quiet out there when this is the time we shoudl be hearing more. MLB is getting kicked in the junk with down metrics across the board and what is even more egregious is the fact that seemingly no one cares about the Astros cheating scandal, which IMO has ripped a big hole in the integrity of the game today and moving forward.
Maybe I am just bored at work today...

Baseball popularity has faded with the rise of American football...and even the NBA. But I played baseball as a kid and still love it today. It's a strategic game that requires moments of incredible athleticism. If you've ever tried to hurl a 90 MPH fastball or successfully hit a good pitcher 1 out of 3 times, you know what I mean. Plus there's still something awfully Americana about the game. I'd love to see MLB in Portland. I live in Central Oregon so it's still a drive to get there, but it's a lot closer than Seattle or San Fran.

I dont think it will happen and I def know that the Mariners mngmt will vote against it--not nearly enough interest for two MLB teams in the NW

Portland did have a vibrant AAA club for many years, but with the growing popularity of other sports, I'm not sure there is enough interest to maintain a MLB club anymore. As for the cheating scandal, I think many people really don't care anymore. It's like "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying". I used to think sign stealing would not make much difference, but with the advent of electronics, it's obvious it does. I love the game, but I'm afraid overall the interest in it is declining.

MLB has great carriage when it comes to broadcasting. In markets with loads of corporate sponsorship, it does well. Hell, even the Marlins and Rays do okay because there are so many fortune 500 companies in those markets. Portland is an underserved major sports market. I think NHL and NFL would flourish there, but MLB might have its work cut out. Nike and Intel would have to co-sign, and the stadium location, size, and design (roof?) Are crucial.
I love baseball. I go to JU and UNF games, and lots of Jumbo Shrimp games. I saw Kershaw and Stanton come through town. Love baseball and will be at spring training in March. But I don't think I am typical of Portland sports fans. They like fringe stuff, like soccer and hockey.
Stick and ball games are losing steam outside of the major markets. It is a shame. Getting my son into baseball early...
Go Ducks! Hope I can keep an eye open at 11:00...

Liberty will probably win the league. I think UNF led the whole country in three pointers at one point this year. Aminu can play...

Kid attends Liberty on generous schollie, so my fandom is in high gear. I even watched the whole Cure Bowl this season... Liberty should win the league, but they also will not make the tourney as an "at large"- they have to finish strong... Kinda like the Ducks!
