I thought we could use a thread to discuss any recruiting news anyone might have. I see where S. Wiltfong has put in a CB today to Oregon for the Alabama commit Jayson Jones. This kid is 6'6" and 340 lbs: he wants to play defense, while Bama wants him on the O line. This would be a major get to replace Jordon after next year.

Jones was visiting this weekend, and it looks like the Ducks made an impression. He has picked up some crystal balls to Oregon, and since it's late in the process, I'm hoping that means a QUACK! Kid is kinda raw, much like Jordon when he first came here, but this would be a very good get if the Ducks can reel him in.

Nemec is calling Jayson Jones to Oregon on Feb 5, although he's a bit tepid in his assessment.
lot of people saying he's too tall for DT or NT, where a low center-of-gravity is desirable. but Haloti was 6-4 and Igor listed at 6-6, so we've seen it work in Eugene. sounds like the young man wants to play D.

The biggest issue is where he will play on the line. I say get him here, let the S&C coaches start shaping his body, and then see how he works at both DT and NT. There is also a good chance that MC sees his potential for the NFL as more on the O line, and convinces the kid to switch. No better place to be for leaning the O line

In the final 247 rankings, Noah Sewell remains at #19. Justin Flowe drops a few places to #11. Butterfield also fell.

I can't see it yet on their rankings but 3 Ducks got bumped to 4 star status, including Luke Hill, Trey Benson (it's about time) and Macael Afaese. I can't see the revised conference or overall rankings yet.

It hurts me to say this, but UW's lone 5 star signee, Sav'ell Smalls, took a massive hit and fell 40 spots. Now listed as a 4 star.

Hardly surprising, the kid obviously isn't good at decision-making, it's bound to affect him on the field.

Keep in mind, that's the 247 ranking, not the composite. The composite still has him as a 5 star.

A lot of movement in the crystal balls for Jones to Oregon over the last few days. Hoping he quacks: it would fill a need on the D line.

Absolutely! I guess we'll find out on February 5th at about Noon. I think he ends up as a Duck. Otherwise, why hold a signing event if he's going to remain committed to Bama? If Bama, he'd just sign.

Jones has released a top four. All the others are quite a bit closer to his home: guess we'll see.

we bought some $50 tics to the big UO recruiting pow-wow at the Nike campus Wed night. doors to the Tiger Woods Center open at 5:30, Mario's presentation is scheduled for 7:15, so there will be plenty of time to avail ourselves of the hosted bar (beer & wine only) and 'heavy hors d'oeuvres'.
got an email this a.m. with a list of some expected guests with whom I might or might not be mingling . . .
