Rod Chance New DB Coach

I like this hire. He was here and knows the veterans, and has a great track record, plus recruiting chops in SEC country.

Re: Rod Chance New DB Coach

Sounds like a great hire to me too. He took Minnesota from the 51st to number 9 pass defense in his first year.

Re: Rod Chance New DB Coach

it's pretty special when you can get a guy from an up-and-coming P5 program to make a lateral move. I'm really excited about this hire. With Oregon's brand and Ávalos as the DC, Chance has a good opportunity to flourish.

I think, as fast as this happened, MC had him in mind from the beginning. With Rod having been here and knowing Lenoir and Graham, he'll hit the ground running. Love the continuity.

Totally agree, this just feels right

Re: Rod Chance New DB Coach

Yeah, it is.

I agree with ranking the Ducks 51st on offense.  I think there is plenty of reason to think they will be better than that, perhaps much, much better.  But based on production and who you have to replace, you are mostly starting from scratch on the O-line and the QB (whoever it is) has proved nothing in college football.

I think Shough looks the part, and will be fine, and if one of the others beats him out I think that bodes even better for us.  But since he's ranking on production, you can't give Shough much credit at this point, can you?

I also think that the ranking doesn't (and shouldn't) reflect the way an absolutely dominant stud like Penei Sewell can raise the quality of play of an entire line.  Dominating and great players tend to make everyone around them better, too.  How can you quantify that in this kind of ranking?  You can't, really.  So I think a 51st ranking is entirely appropriate at this point in time.

And yet, I expect a top 20 offense by the end of the year, and possibly sooner -- they just haven't earned it yet, but I expect it.  Partly that's because I have high hopes for Devon Williams.  If he doesn't become a significant threat it becomes harder.  We've got some really nice returning receivers but we lost Juwan, and he was becoming so dangerous.

Yeah, I have no problem with that ranking right now. Shough has yet to really show what he can do, and we replace most of the O line. Like you, I do expect the offense will be much improved, especially in efficiency. I think Moorhead will have a better answer on short yardage plays.
Devon could be a huge weapon, and I like the rest as well. If the D is as we expect, and the O can put up points around 38 per game, that's gonna make for a great season. Go Ducks!

Re: Rod Chance New DB Coach

Good news, Washington has been doing pretty well recruiting and often has different channels than the Ducks. It would be nice to have more potential to recruit in other areas.

And according to A Nemec, the state of WA have some highly rated kids coming out in the next few years. With C Petagna’s connection with his years up there, Ducks have a great chance at snagging a few of them. Coach Cristobal, thinking ahead. So awesome.

Looks like our new coach is already stoking the rivalry
