NCAA moves toward immediate eligibilty for all transfers

When I first saw this headline, I thought this could be a bad thing to happen.  For those of you 'in the know', let the rest of us hear your thoughts of whether this will be good or bad for college sports, especially our Ducks.

Fine with it if partnered up with a one-time exemption for all undergraduate scholarship athletes.  After the first transfer, think sitting out is reasonable for the second transfer and further.  Grad transfer rule stays in place.  Do this across all sports programs for all scholarship athletes.  Non-scholarship athletes should be free to move as other opportunities arise with no penalty.

Neither good nor bad IMO, but will require a shift in thinking as good players depart while other good players come in.  This is a direct byproduct of the coaching culture of transience as well as the current climate of social media and broadcast media.  Just wait to see what happens when they add dollars to the equation...

College sports is on a suicidal path currently. None of this will be sustainable on a regular basis... we will be left with a few super powers, and the rest will be gone.

Exactly my thoughts.  If the student does not realize that they are committing to a school and not a coach, tough.  We lose a CB coach and everybody is in transfer watch.  How would that be sustainable?  Add the paying of players and watch a few mega-teams develop and dominate.

Re: NCAA moves toward immediate eligibilty for all transfers

On one hand I think the players deserve it. The coaches are making millions on the game and transfer on kids the just recruited all the time.

On the other hand this could lead to complete chaos. A LOI wouldn't mean much anymore. Players not on the 1st team in camp could easily leave to a team they think they could play on. So many things could go on. I would think it could actually help weaker teams in conferences and non-majors by picking up bench players from really good teams that want to be on the field. This already happens with QB's a lot that are willing to sit out a year, but you would have to think the immediate eligibility would make transfers increase big time. It could get really bad if you have a bunch of players leave a team during the middle of the season and coaches have to worry about poaching other players instead of worrying about next weeks game.

Mario is a relentless recruiter and stays ahead of the curve so I'm sure he can adjust to anything. I'll be curious to how this is going to all play out though.

If we look at Oregon State, that is probably the only way they get good players...case in point is the amount of transfers that came in the last year, some 4 stars.
