"The bar, which opened in 1922, is known for being directly across the street from campus and appealing to raucous crowds of young drinkers."
Been there. Done that.
"The list of offenses includes multiple thefts, reports of harassment, possible drink tampering and rape, and several DUII, including the one that ended in the death of a passenger."
Nothing funny about that. But looking at the list, there are a few things that don't look to be the bar's fault. I don't know that business, but not sure how you monitor a place when it is PACKED with college kids.
I would guess the current owner will have to sell at a loss, and the new owner would be be able to get a license if he/she meets all the standards and checks.

Never a Taylor's guy, our group seemed to prefer Rennie's to start the weekend and Guido's to follow. Every once in a while it would be "quarter beer night" at the Mill Camp...
Sounds like more a confessional than anything....

I wasn't a big Taylor's guy, either, but had a few there. Usually went to a place a block west on 13th. Don't recall what it was named then. We lived at 30th/Amazon Pkwy and Alder. There was a tav in the parking lot behind us (now apartments). Our back fence had a gate to that lot. Our yard had a beaten trail to that fence.

back in my day (early 80s) Taylor's was for the granola-cruncher, Birkenstock crowd and Duffy's at the other end of the street was for the frat rats (I was a Phi Psi). and it was quite the cultural divide, so I rarely entered Taylor's, although sometimes I had one of their (great) burgers at a lunchtime table outside.
we liked, in no particular order, Max's on 13th & Ferry, The Pad out there on Amazon, the Gatehouse out on the Gateway strip in Springfield, Rennie's, and a couple of dive bars in North Eugene. the advantage of the on-campus sites was that nobody had to drive.
Taylor's was purchased several years ago by some guy in Portland who owns a joint in the Slabtown/Pearl area as well. he's a big Duck booster and they run shuttles from his NWPDX tav to games in Eugene. it's too bad he couldn't clean up the problems and make it work.
but the world has changed, and now you can order a microbrew at a pizza joint in the EMU.

I was in between those crowds (in the 70s), but I preferred Duffy's: better gals. I couldn't recall the name of it earlier.
And "The Pad." That was the name of that place behind our house. Thanks for that. I think it was leveled for an apartment house.
More bad news for Taylor's...

I remember that second story. women claimed a bartender at Taylor's slipped a roofie into their drinks in collusion w the guy who later assaulted them. yuck.

Best thing about Taylor’s was the live blues back in the day. Saw Robert Cray, amongst others. It was also the birthplace of the Blues Brothers. Hope someone buys it and brings it back.

I missed the “Animal House” antics, but had a friend who attended a few. IIRC there was a blues bar down by the bus depot that had a few wild nights with Belushi, per my buddy.

national acts used to play The Place regularly. Muddy Waters played there. Patti Smith Group. just slightly before my time, but the memorabilia was on the walls. you could get big-people drinks (not just wine & beer) for cheap.
