Eugene is a special place. I use to go visit my Aunt who lived next to Hayward Field at the time when I was a kid. One year I was visiting during the Olympic trials so we walked over and checked it out. What a great atmosphere for sports and in general.

I got to Oregon in 71. My first trip to Eugene was to watch Pre run. The atmosphere was electric. I was hooked on UO and it's sports programs. I never had the chance to attend college, but I sent two kids to UO, and they loved it.

I think those days of glory will return for the track team.
As to the linked story.... amazing what Mullens has put together down there. I think Graves will be the first among the three to win a natty. Maybe this year.
Back to track... when I went to Oregon, football was horrid (although I still went to the games), basketball was better (Kamakaze Kids!, still have the T-shirt LOL), but track -- with Pre -- was national caliber. I recall the "Dual Meet of the Decade" vs UCLA, and three-ways (or double duals) with UCLA and USC.
Plus the spring weather was usually perfect. I recall the morning after Pre was killed. It was horrible.

heading down to the UO-OS game Thurs night @ 8 pm. hoping to get to Eugene while it's still light & walk around by Hayward, my old Hamilton dorm, and all the Uncle Phil & Penny construction across Franklin. grab a bite of dinner and go to the game. back in PDX by midnight. almost like football.
