It is not like OLive spares osu sports any criticism...they don't. But it seems like so many Oregon successes require a qualifying comment to mitigate or minimalize the achievement. Hence Goe's column last night about the Ducks beating the beavers in basketball and this line:
"In an otherwise forgettable Civil War men’s basketball game..."
Forgettable? For who? The Ducks ended a 3-game losing streak to osu and WON the Civil War game; kept their undefeated record at home intact; moved into first place in the Pac-12(osu in in 11th and the uw in 12th....LOVE IT!). For me ALL wins over osu are "memorable."
However I always remind myself no matter what OLive or any website posts, they have zero impact on the coutcome of any game.

I correctly guessed who wrote that — Goe. His back must be sore from carrying all that water for Beevis.

really was kind of a lackluster, grind-it-out game. 1st half was the slow, half-court tempo that OSU wanted, and Ducks musta missed a dozen shots right at the rim.
UO ramped up the D in the 2nd half--Dana put Richardson on Ethan T instead of FastPP3--and beevs scored 3 points in the first 9 minutes. and that was that, as Uncle Ellis once said.
OSU had no answer in the 2nd half for #3 and #0 breaking them down off the dribble time after time in the halfcourt game; Ducks finished at the rim, dished for dunks and layins, or kicked out for three-balls. Kylor got some blocks early, but he ran out of gas and lost enthusiasm as the beevs fell further behind.
we popped $50 for good tics 14 rows up across from the Duck bench. poor OSU cheerleaders and rally boys were quarantined in that corner the whole night long except for intros. did the same 3 or 4 routines over and over. Ducks were scoring at that end in the 2nd half, and you could see the frustration--and a lot of profanity--build from the beev players. I think they know they're done for the year, w/o even a chance at the NIT.

I guess for me having played organized basketball throughout my youth, the games are typically an ebb and flow of momentum. Rarely does anyone win buzzer to buzzer. I loved how Altman put on a full court press to start the second half and for quite some time, osu had only 3 points. That changed the game as much as anything. It is safe to say at this point in the season, both the Oregon men and women have at the very least met expectations if not exceeded to some degree while the men and women of osu have fallen below expectations! :-)
