Tyson Alger previews Oregon spring football practice

An in-depth piece from Tyson analyzing every position group as spring practice begins. If you don't have a scrip to The Athletic, this is a good reason to blow your free trial.
Sounds like Tyler Shough has a bit of a 'tude . . . in all the right ways.

I think we will be fine with Shough. Largely because of our D. The kid won’t have carry the full burden; he will have room to make mistakes and learn.

Shough has hard bark on him. He broke that deal with NC and went all in at UO. He will be a very fine QB at Oregon. Not a game manager...

Who is your favorite UO QB of all time, OMM? Take Marcus out...

Favorite (not GOAT) is Bill Musgrave.  Sentimental choice as he was the Dude when I was there.  They had really good teams in that era that always had a realistic puncher’s chance to pull the upset.

LOVE Musgrave! What a baller! I really liked Kellen Clemens. Tough kid, and from the IMC. I grew up in Pendleton, and it's great to see a guy like Kellen having that success!

I think Chris Miller will always be my fav. 1981-83, coinciding w my undergrad years, was the absolute trough of Duck football. 2-9, 2-8-1, and 4-6-1. losses to Kansas, San Jose St, Pacific (later dropped football), and the 0-0 tie w OS. Miller and Leewwwwww Barnes came along and gave us some hope that UO could compete in the Pac-10. that finally came to fruition in 1987, when Musgrave beat UW and SC on back-to-back Saturdays in Autzen.
Big Play VA will always be near the top of my list because of that game in Husky Stadium. Ducks had lost 2 of last 3, including a stomping in Autzen by the Utes. Dawg fans smelled blood in the water, and thought they were going to end 11 years of frustration. Adams was less than 100 percent and questionable to even play.
I went back and looked it up: VA completed passes of 48, 36 (TD), 24, 29, 44, and 27 yards, ALL ON F#N 3RD DOWN. and scampered 17 yards for first on another 3rd down. heartbreakers and lifetakers. Petersen and Jimmy Lake, who was corners coach at the time, had no answer.

Big Play VA ....

Miller was a warrior who had little around him most of the time, and paid a physical price: concussion or two, late hit out of bounds by Huskies, etc.
VA: wish we had him for another year.

It could be a chance to find a better recruiter. It seems like coaches are moving around more than ever now days.
