    a roundtable discussion with seven of The Athletic's P-12 football & b-ball beat writers (I think that's all of them; schools like OS and Wazzu don't have an Athletic beat writer).

    lots of love for Cal this season. writers are picking UO and Cal in the North, w maybe UW in the hunt. SC and ASU in the South; one maybe for Utes. only one of seven thinks Larry Scott is in trouble. everybody sees Herbs as an early first-round pick, but few other P-12 first-round possibles.

    ASU is my early pick in the South, Oregon up North.  Cal is building something and there is a vulnerability in the North with Stanford's decline and changes in Seattle and Pullman.  Don't think Wilcox is going anywhere soon.
