ahh, the Mighty Dawgs of Montlake, w Don James as HC, Lambo as DC, and Gilby as OC. one of the dirtiest programs in 'college' history. bunch of non-student, lawbreaking athletes cordoned in a residential compound away from the rest of the university, who Stanford's Bill Walsh once labeled 'mercenaries'.
when the sanctions dropped, James quit rather than compete on a level playing field. Lambo carried on for the next six years (2-4 v UO), including spectacular November collapses in 1995 & 1997, until he got the ax for Skippy N. and Gilby was unsuccessful in four years at Cal, and only lasted two back in Montake (2003, 2004, 1-10 the second year). it was Gilby who led off the Twelve Years of Misery, so tip of the Duck bill to him for that.
