New Quarterback

Don't understand the philosophy behind bringing in a graduate transfer...go with Shough. No graduate transfers have taken the Ducks to the next level. Build the team around him. Graduate transfers are only a temporary solution. Herbert did well as a freshman,  Shough can do well as a RS sophomore. Cut the crap and build the team around Shough.

Re: New Quarterback

Agree, do not see the upside of a GT (who is not terribly great to begin with) coming in take a seat in the room.  Maybe it IS about the academics or possibly a coaching apprenticeship as to why he was allowed an opportunity at UO.  New OC who just came from being the BMOC elsewhere and maybe part of the deal is allowing him to make these decisions.

Re: New Quarterback

I was with you but over the past few days I have been adjusting that opinion. Then I read this article on OLive which helped too...

https://www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/2020/04/quarterback-transfer-anthony-brown-on-oregon-ducks-no-promises-no-guarantees-no-strings-attached.html

I think in no order of importance, the reasons for bringing in Brown are...

1) After Shough we no quarterbacks with game experience...Millen and two true freshmen....Butterfield and Ashford. If Shough gets hurt on the first play of the season, we are in trouble.

2) I think with spring practices ending so abruptly and no Spring Game plus coaches now in a no practice, in person meetings, etc. allowed...played a role in the decision to have Brown come in.

3) The new OC Joe Moorhead MAY have had some influence on having a quarterback that fits his vision / needs.

4) Brown, based on the article above, seems like a good kid with no entitlement attitude.

5) I do wonder IF Brown wins the starting job whether Shough will stay in the program. But as Cristobal noted the other day, "Shough is the starter coming out of the spring practice sessions."

Right now we have no guarantees there is even going to be a college football season so all we can do is trust that Cristobal knows what he is doing....but yeah, as I posted separately, I am not a big fan of graduate transfer QB's for multiple reasons...some of which you noted....in this case, I am gradually warming to the idea that is may have been a good move. Plus at least Brown comes from a Power 5 Conference team vs Eastern Washington(Adams) and Montana State(Prukop). Go  Ducks!
