Ugh. What an utterly lost year. I hope they play in the spring. Maybe we can get Ohio State back if they do...

It's very disappointing but I saw the writing on the wall. What a mess. And I'm one who hasn't bought into the hype about Covid-19. I don't know if any of you Duck fans are hockey fans but I've been watching the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and at least, for me, has been very exciting. It doesn't take the sting away from college football but it helps a bit. And I don't follow MLB, NBA or the NFL.

Disappointing is definitely an understatement. The NFL is a distant 2nd choice for me. I tired of the NBA a while ago. I honestly don't know a lot about hockey. I liked watching some of the Olympic hockey in the past and would consider giving the NHL a try. I have friends from Detroit that are really into hockey and the Red Wings of course. I've gotten into the UFC recently. It's a pretty entertaining sport if you can get past how brutal it is.

I still have a sliver of hope that they will play. Hearing some encouraging chat on the SEC, at least...

Scott Frost is saying Nebraska is committed to playing no matter what. I think we'll see some teams go rogue. Ohio State, Iowa, and Michigan are also on the record as wanting to play. Hope Coach Cristobal is getting the Ducks geared up for some travel...

Yeah, they're trying to get exclusive TV rights? It's not surprising that the SEC will be the last conference to throw in the towel. I guess I would watch the SEC, but it would be frustrating not being able to see the Ducks too. SEC games would be something I would watch before the Ducks games if I had the time.

1) I don't think there will be much credibility given to teams who decide to play "pickup games" if their conference cancels seasons / sports. A coach can say whatever they desire but also remembering that guidelines / rules, etc. in one state and even city can be different than another. So just because you want to play and want to travel and want to host does not mean it can happen. Frost lives and works in a very red state so he is probably saying what is politically acceptable for that program.
2) I rarely watch the NHL regular season but I think the playoffs are the best of any professional sport! Continuous action, very few replays, by and large the referees let the players play...plus Doc Emrick is the best play by play announcer in any sport at any level. The studio talking heads are small in number but all know the game very well. For a male dominated sport, Kathryn Tappen can hold her own with anyone.
3) I think once the decision is finally made to cancel sports for the rest of 2020, then the focus can be solely on 2021. But all this posturing, which I understand is necessary, trying to come up with different scenarios and solutions with people rarely being on the same page is at this point, not productive. The virus will tell us what we need to do so lets stop trying to outguess it.

really the only prudent decision. if 25-man MLB rosters can't keep from infecting one another and everybody else around them, not much chance for a 60/85 man CFB team.
hope they can make it work in Spring 2021, with fans in the stadium. I feel bad for the HS kids, esp seniors in Fall sports who won't get another chance. college players will get a shot.
if they can play The Masters in November, they can play the Platypus Trophy in May.

It's not as fun as watching PAC-12 football, but I've come to develop a grudging respect for SEC football. Some of the games are extraordinary (UGA/UF), while some are horrible (Vandy/MSU). It's improved gradually in terms of showcasing some offensive creativity. Defenses are rugged and filled with so many future NFL players. QB play is not as good as out west...

College football is a complete logistical mess. The latest upshot is the remaining power conferences are going to play. Most people seem to think they won't finish, but who knows. Maybe another conference drops out early after some positive test and the SEC keeps playing. Then you have the teams like Nebraska saying they want to play elsewhere. The Big Ten told them they wouldn't be welcome back in the conference and things will get real interesting if the Huskers stick to their guns and try to play elsewhere.
Would the NCAA still try to play a playoff this year if by some miracle the remaining 3 make it?
Besides loosing the fall season a number of draft bound players could be out the door. I'll be real disappointed not seeing guys like Penei ever play for the Ducks again, but wouldn't blame them. Then a new freshman class would be coming in who missed their senior high school season. This is all just a big mess at this point. The NCAA hasn't taken a leadership role or really communicated much. That's going to have to change to sort everything out at some point.

if SEC, Big12, or ACC try to forge ahead w football this Fall, it's gonna get ugly real fast. stories like the one below nearly every day.
wouldn't be surprised to see legitimate academic schools like Vandy or Duke opt out, even if the rest of the conf intends to play.

This morning on the radio they were talking about the B1G playing in the winter (and having the Rose Bowl if the PAC-12 does the same), the main benefit being players could play another season and still have time to prepare for the draft.
Found an article about it here:
Haven’t heard anything about it from the PAC-12 POV, but so far the B1G has been taking the lead with rumors and announcements and such, so no big surprise.
