Putting it bluntly, our defensive line is abysmal. Is this a coaching issue? Have the players regressed?
It doesn’t seem like our DTs can get any penetration.
So what’s the answer?

One thing is true...we don't blitz much , and it's usually 4 D linemen rushing, so harder to get pressure. It also means the LBs too often get blocked...Big Mac is holding his own, generally getting double teamed. Kayvon is getting better every game. It seems getting pressure on the QB has been an issue under different D coordinators: no answer from me, but it's a big problem.

I am not sure this article provides many answers other than giving you the idea of what the coaches are thinking / doing.
As I posted previously...no football coaching experience for me...but it sure seems as talented and athletic a player as KT is, he should be standing up at the snap of the ball and moved around. I just don't see how starting with both hands on the ground is maximizing his abilities.

I think that Avalos is so worried about being hurt by the pass that he just isnt willing to double team at the line or come from the sides to rush the QB. It seems as he feels he needs all he has in the back field and we still cant stop the pass and the opposing offense has all day to convert on a play. We cant even stop the run in less than 6 yards, IMO this is a player issue-maybe conditioning or just overall toughness/strength.

I agree with you about Avalos fearing getting beat by the pass. I think losing Holland, Graham, and Breeze along with Troy is HUGE. Glad this is an * year.

I agree that this is good year for an *. I knew we lost a lot on D, but was thinking there was enough talent left to be doing better than they are. I'm hopeful they can make some improvements today.
