I'm about ready to throw in the towel on this season and start focusing on next year. Who's going to be good next year?
A lot of teams out of the South could be competitive next year. ASU has looked really impressive from what I've seen and they're supposedly bringing back most of their players. Chip is finally starting to get some traction again and at the very least won't be a gimmie like the last 2 years. Utah is young this year and have been hit hard by Covid. You can really never count them out. USC has looked sloppy at times, but has a lot of talent and will probably be the easy favorite to win the South.
The Ducks might be one of the bigger question marks in the conference. They certainly could be as good as a playoff team with the talent they have. That's assuming the defense shows up and get's their act together. I'm not as down as some on Shough, but could see him loosing out with the other seemingly really could QB's on the roster. How about Thompson coming in? He looks like the real deal. Butterfield will have a year of experience and could be in the mix too.
I think the only team besides the Ducks in the North would be the Huskies. I'm not sure their really a playoff type team or anything either. I don't think Stanford will be true contender with their archaic style of control the clock. The rest of the North could be decent, however it's hard to see any of them being truly dominant next year.

I'm with you, Phil. Was getting ready to watch Cal-WSU and saw that game was cancelled. ONE player tested positive and they cancel the game. Unbelievable what this season has become. I'm looking forward to the Ducks-Huskies in basketball tonight...hope that's not going to be postponed or canceled. Anybody have any info on Franck Kepnang, the newest Duck ready to play. Don't know if Dana Altman has any spot for him, especially when Will Richardson returns in another month or so. Anyway, something to look forward too. Go Ducks!

1) 2021 will be a key year for Cristobal...year #4 as head coach; #5 with the Oregon program. Meaning he will have had a role in recruiting nearly every player on the team. Without question he has done the best of his coaching class who came into the Pac-12 at the same time: Kelly, Smith, Edwards and the now fired Sumlin.
Cristobal inherited Herbert, Troy Dye, that great OL, etc and did an awesome job. Now we will see what he does with "his team."
2) I am not sold on Moorhead. Avalos at least showed me last year what he could do so I am less concerned with the defense.
I couldn't believe it when I read in OLive that Moorhead is one of the nominees for the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach?! Cited in the article was this...
"Oregon (3-2) leads the Pac-12 in scoring and third-down conversions and ranks second in the conference in total offense and passing."
Uh huh...what about these stats: Major second half struggles against two teams(osu and Cal) with a combined 1-5 record. SHUT OUT in the second half against Cal. 2 TD's against osu in the second half.
What Moorhead showed me is he is very good first half OC and a very poor second half OC. Doesn't make adjustments; goes ultra conservative in play calling.
DJ Johnson was a beast the first few games...played in all 5 games but didn't record a stat in the last three?!? So the brilliant Moorhead couldn't figure out ONE play to get the ball in his hands?!
3) As it relates to Moorhead and Cristobal, I am not sold on Shough either...just because he runs more than Herbert. He has been with the program for 3-years and there is A LOT of QB talent on the team AND coming in... something has to give...not all those QB's are going to stick around if they can't play... second half of both osu and Cal games with Shough struggling should have seen a change in QB's.....even for one series.
4) Oregon will never have an explosive running GAME using the Pistol... NEVER. They may have explosive PLAYS but not overall running game. Plus third and one / fourth and one = the "Oregon Special" with Verdell up the middle from the Pistol. It is a one play playbook...no QB under center; no quick slant to a WR...nothing.
5) It appears the Ducks now have a reliable kicker! Yes!

I am not ready, Phil. I was absolutely disappointed the Ducks didn't have a game this weekend, no matter the end result, and hoped they could have scrounged up a game with any team from any conference. So I guess that showed me that I am not ready to throw in the towel on this season even though the CFP was out of the picture.
Meanwhile, Go Lady Ducks! It was great to watch them crush the beebs...PowPow! Go Ducks!
