I think I may have read this previously but Cristobal is the 11th highest paid coach in the Pac-12???
That is a travesty.
Apparently an extension was in the works pre-pandemic but has "picked up" with Malzahn being fired at Auburn. I guess so. Maybe the Michigan job will be open soon too.
I think Cristobal will and wants to stay BUT the Pac-12 ala Larry Scott is a mess and I could see Cristobal wanting to coach in a better run conference with a chance to make the playoffs.
Perhaps he stays this time but if the Pac-12 can't get its act together in the next 3-5 years he might leave.

Auburn has the ability to back up a truck full of cash, that is for sure. I think MC is at some point going to leave, but I find it tough that he would bolt at this juncture. This is now truly “his team.” These are his players and his assistants and his culture. UO is seeking to lock him up with a better level of compensation as his last “real” season of football put a nice chunk of hardware in the trophy case with upside to deliver more.
I agree that if the P12 stays the course with Scott that the conference almost becomes a mid major. UO and other P12 schools being stepping stones as opposed to destinations. THAT is when I see MC leaving even if paid much better and with more accolades and trophies... And if Miami continues its Jeckyll and Hyde act the writing might already be on the wall...

I don't see Mario driven by money as Willie was. From everything he's said during his time as our HC, money hasn't seemed to be a driving force, he will be taken cared of by Mullens and our big Duck boosters. I agree with DucksReign and Jiffy Jeff that at some point Mario will leave but this just doesn't feel like the right time.
He's in a P5 Conference with the chance to be in the CFP every year as long as he, his staff, and players win. Being here in the West is less of a pressure cooker than the conferences in the East, Midwest, and the South. I can see him leaving if the right opportunity comes up AFTER he gets us to a CFP game (win or lose). That's just the kind of guy I see Mario as. I hope I'm right.

All good points...yeah I think with this being his first P5 head coaching gig and now having his team...he is not looking to leave.
If and when he does decide to do so and assumimg he continues to have success...I doubt he will be leaving for any rebuilding job at an historically average P5 team...it will be a "name program." Heck his recruiting prowess makes him attractive to just about any school.
What will be an ongoing measure of his head coaching skill set is his ability to replace the inevitable poaching of his assistant coaches.

Tru dat. He still has some growing in the CEO role of a program and this is a key aspect of that...
