Fiesta Bowl

The Ducks are headed to the Fiesta Bowl.  Who would have thought that would happen since the dismal showing against OSU and Cal.  The projected opponents are Indiana, Coastal Carolina, Northwestern and Louisiana.

Ohio State and Northwestern play for the Big Ten Championship game today.  Should the Buckeyes win, they will likely claim one of the CFP spots and then the Ducks could face Northwestern or Indiana.  But a recent projection also has Coastal Carolina (whose game against Louisiana was cancelled) as a potential opponent.

After today's games are completed, we will know Sunday who Oregon will play. Go Ducks!

Re: Fiesta Bowl

Indiana could be a good game. They've only lost to the Buckeyes and seem like a pretty good team.

Cincinnati Bearcats are listed as another likely team. Whoever they play the Ducks will need to have another effort like last night.

Go Ducks!

Re: Fiesta Bowl

a Fiesta Bowl would be just fine w me. any way we could meet the Buckeyes? cuz the Ann-Margarets are showing pretty good in the B1G Championship this a.m.

a trivial tidbit factoid for anyone interested . . .
the moneyline on Ducks straight-up dropped from +150 to +125 in the minutes before last night's kickoff. someone piled a ton of green on Green and was handsomely rewarded. we knew Malepeia was doubtful, so I don't know what other insider-gen was out there, but sumbuddy knowed sumpin.

Re: Fiesta Bowl

Almost forgot.  For all you Duck basketball fans, Oregon (5-1) plays Portland (5-1) at 12 noon on the PAC 12 network today.  Ducks are favored by 24 so I'd like to see Altman play some of his bench players for extended minutes.  N'Faly Dante only played 10 minutes in the game against San Francisco as he tweaked his knee or leg.  This would be a game he could sit out if needed.  This is the Pilot team that knocked off the Beavers last week in Corvallis 87-86 in overtime. This goes to show to never underestimate your opponent. Go Ducks!

Somebody must have seen the defense open a can of whoop-ass prior to kickoff!

I hope Northwestern wins, but I'm still not sure this is the year to play the Buckeyes. I don't follow Northwestern that much anymore, however I grew up watching them around the house and have seen several games in person. My dad is Northwestern alumni.

@Phil
a Northwestern W might get the Mildcats to the Fiesta? would be a good game. The Journalism School Bowl.

somebody give Big Joe a raise. cuz he lit a foundry furnace underneath our D-line. it's been a weak spot up until last night.
I seriously thought SC would run at will on us, even w/o V.M., and that would set up Slovis off play action or 1:1 coverage. Tommy had net 38 yards rushing.

SC thought they could run too and you could certainly see it was part of their game plan. Last night is what I was expecting of our defense this year. I thought the Ducks were going to have to win in the air with the pass game and I'm glad to be wrong.

For the bowl game it sounds like the Ducks will start Shough. I'm sure Brown will get some more plays, but would they take Shough out if he throws a pick or just looks like a deer in headlights?

Re: Fiesta Bowl

1) Fiesta Bowl is a great location re recruiting in SoCal and Arizona where the Ducks have done well.

2) The D last night was what I had expected all season and a carryover from last season... play with an attitude, aggressive and smart.

3) Cristobal can spin it anyway he wants about Brown playing but it is an acknowledgement that Shough struggles in crunch time situations. So in that context it is nice to see an adjustment by the coaching staff.

However I am not sure what the cause is for Shough to struggle? Moorhead clearly shuts down all the razzle dazzle plays in the second half. Pre snap motion wanes. Soon it is back to the predictable one play Pistol "offense"...a run up the middle.

So does Moorhead shutting it all down cause Shough to lose confidence or does Moorhead shut down to protect Shough from making a major gaffe? Or are Moorhead / Shough unable to recognize and adjust to changes made by the defense? We are talking 4 games in a row with 2 wins(UCLA and USC) and 2 losses(osu and Cal) with second half struggles. People used to go bonkers when Oregon had one bad possession under Arroyo.

Moorhead would not be the first OC to muffle the weapons on his offense and Shough would not be the first QB to be great in any part of the game except crunch time.

All I know is together they appear to coaching / playing not to lose instead of trying to win.

4) I cannot recall the last time I was this relaxed with an Oregon FG / XP kicker!

Go Ducks!

Lady Ducks are up right after the boys are done. At the fuskies. On PAC-12 Oregon, if you got it.

Re: Fiesta Bowl

Ducks play Iowa State in the Fiesta. Hoping the kids get a chance to see family for Christmas...been a mentally draining year for them.

Re: Fiesta Bowl

Iowa State favored by 3.  Good.  Glad Oregon is the underdog.
