Avalos as head coach at Boise State?

This possibility is just starting to rumble...I hope it does not become a reality...but Avalos played at Boise State and then coached there...and with Bryan Harsin being hired at Auburn...who knows?

One interesting caveat as noted in the article, Boise State currently has no athletic director as they are searching to fill that position too so it is not known who will hire a new head football coach!

Re: Avalos as head coach at Boise State?

I can't see him turning down the job. Besides his history with the school they have a good football program.

From some articles I'm seeing he may not be the favorite for the job at this point. The Cowboys OC and former Boise State QB Kellen Moore is supposedly the favorite if he wants it.

Avalos probably won't be around much longer even if he doesn't leave for Boise State.

No surprise to hear that Avalos interviewed for the job. Kellen Moore also interviewed and is still rumored to be the leading candidate for the job. I just hope Avalos isn't distracted too much going into the Iowa State game.

We know that Mario can replace coaches if need be and this is what happens to big successful programs. I respect Avalos and hope for his sake that he gets the job even though I would like him to stick around for Ducks.

Re: Avalos as head coach at Boise State?

I have often read where "returning home" to be the head coach at a school where you played and perhaps even began your coaching career was the "final stop." See Jeff Tedford returning to Fresno State.

But it seems more coaches are doing so with plenty of tread still remaining as in Jonathan Smith, Scott Frost and Jim Harbaugh to name a few examples.

No doubt expectations are much higher in those situations...see Frost and Harbaugh especially.

Yet a potential issue is if you don't meet or succeed those expectations, then what? If you can't make it at your alma mater where can you?

I think Avalos would like to expand his coaching experiences(at the P5 level?) before taking the job at Boise State...if he ever takes it.

I always thought Tedford was a good coach. I get Avalos going home and I wish him well if he does. Very different feel to it than when Taggart took Phil's jet to go Benedict Arnold on us...

Oops. My comment posted in the middle, LOL...
