Remember when Cal faked injuries against Oregon in 2010?

Isn’t it funny how the defensive line coach for Cal at the time, instructed his players to fake an injury and fall on the ball in order to stop Chip’s blur offense.  Now, that same coach is in the front running to be Oregon’s defensive coordinator.

I wonder if Olive will bring that up if he’s hired?

It is also interesting that from just a week or so ago, the names on the list have changed significantly...although Lupoi is one of the carryovers.

Yeah ever since that Cal game issue, I have always associated him with being "sketchy" but he left Cal 10-years ago and he did spend 3 seasons at Alabama which lead the nation in Scoring Defense in 2016 and 2017 and was second in the nation those years in Total Defense...in which he was the Co-Defensive Coordinator. Saban doesn't keep coaches who don't do their jobs well.

One thing we know about Cristobal...he does EXTENSIVE vetting of any coach he is going to hire.

I am still hoping for an internal promotion for Keith Heyward who apparently was "close" to getting the job when it went to Avalos but with each passing day that seems less likely.

I too am still hoping Keith is in the mix. I think he has a much better handle on things than Pellum did, and I'd like to see him get his chance. As you say, looking less likely. I haven't heard his name at all.

Re: Remember when Cal faked injuries against Oregon in 2010?

The only scenario I can see Heyward being promoted now is if Cristobal's approach is checking to see who is available and whether there is a reason or reasons not to promote him.

But that doesn't seem like Cristobal's style and I am thinking if he is not going to promote Heyward, that conversation has already happened between the two of them.

Cristobal doesn't strike me as a guy who makes a decision (promote Heyward) and then goes through the motions of due diligence just for the sake of doing so and looking good.
