Reply to me from Canzano

I emailed Canzano regarding a recent column or two expressing my concerns about the offensive side of the ball for Oregon.

One stat I shared with him is in 7 games Oregon AVERAGED 5 points in the 4th quarter! Thanks to 3 shutouts in that quarter.

I don't have a blanket dislike for him(I save that for fanboy website FishDuck and its owner). I do find I am all over the place with him from total agreement / disagreement and all points in between but that is okay.

Anyway my email was polite(no name calling) and he replied in kind which was nice. Interesting perspective though on Shough!

His thoughts and I agree about Herbert...

"Justin Herbert covered a lot of deficiencies. Moorhead was wicked good in the red zone. Shough isn’t good enough to start for about 7 of the PAC-12 teams. Moorhead isn’t elite as a play caller...Not sold on the QBs right now. Need to do a piece on Moorhead and examine further. Thanks for note."

Re: Reply to me from Canzano

Canzano is like a weather-vane on the roof of the Pacific Dunes clubhouse mid-afternoon. he dogged Marcus Arroyo for three years, right up until Mario hoisted that Rose Bowl Trophy in the looming darkness of a cool January eve.

'Anyone miss Marcus Arroyo. Me neither'

well . . . maybe, huh?

my personal take is that Canzano has burned so many bridges in Eugene that he'll heap praise on anyone who will talk to him. he wrote a lovebomb to Moorhead after he first got hired, and wet himself over DeRuyter just last week.
and if a UO coach or admin won't share info, come on the radio program, or play teenage-texting w him, then that person becomes a target, and 'sources' tell JC that their job is on the hot seat.

He is not the best at presenting a full perspective i.e. So what does the hiring of DeRuyter mean in terms of the loss of Heyward and especially since they essentially switched schools and both happened simultaneously.

He is an opinion columnist and not a beat writer covering a team. I remember when George Schroeder was in a similar position at the RG and if he wrote even one negative Duck sentence people would pounce and rip him on message boards. Opinion columnists are often seen as "traitors" to fan bases but to me nothing is worse than "everything is awesome" opinions or fanboy websites like FishDuck who have college kids writing articles and zero access to any aspect they cover...coaches, players, press conferences, etc.

Otherwise I don't know what if any policy exists in the Oregon AD about communicating with him but on his podcast, which may be less threatening because the subject does most of the talking, he had Cristobal on in September, October and November; Graves and Mullens on too during these last 3-4 months.

He needs "sources"(people who will talk anonymously when necessary) for his writing efforts but he needs "guests" for his podcast.

So I guess you disagreed with his opinions/analysis on Taggart, Arroyo and the disaster that was Larry Scott for our Conference. He wrote a top notch series that completely exposed Larry Scott for the selfish failure that he was and probably still is.

Expounding upon my Arroyo reference, they had Herbert and they finished 11-2 despite Arroyo's shortcomings. He had a runaway future NFL rookie of the year QB playing big time. And also a very good D really helped him look better than he was too.

I was actually the first on OL comments for being critical of Taggart early on, as well as Arroyo. I was all over Marcus when he didn't have Burmeister ready after Herbert goes down. He was the QB coach his first season. And Larry Scott too, as soon as the replay scandal hit - it's time to ring the alarm bells.. Myself and Canzano took a lot of heat for those viewpoints, but of course we were later vindicated.

Canzano ain't perfect and I didn't like some of his early attacks on basketball coach Dana Altman. He also might have a bit of an ego.  However, putting that aside he has very good insights.

I don't agree or disagree with any of his opinion/analysis since I don't read his stuff.

Re: Reply to me from Canzano

My criteria, for whatever it is worth, as to whether I read someone isn't their style, personality, etc. but as I have stated previously is...ACCESS.

Does a person have access to press conferences, locker rooms, mobile phone numbers, etc. Can I read or hear from the people noted?

Paul Finebaum is a thousand times more annoying to me than Canzano because he is ranting from a thousand miles away(when he comments on the Pac-12 or any school in the conference).

I realize not every fan needs or wants "sources" to enjoy their team but for me between the RG, OLive and GoDucks(Rob Moseley) I get very good coverage of Oregon Duck sports teams compared to the content on Addicted to Quack, FishDuck and Duck Territory.

Go Ducks!
