Tyler Shough is transferring

Wow, did not see this one coming. Says he has already graduated. My hope is Thompson will be the starter, as he seems to fit what Moorhead wants in a QB..guess we'll see.

Re: Tyler Shough is transferring

Not a shocker.  With not only Thompson coming in, but Brown returning, he was looking at 2021 as QB3...

The real pressure is on Moorhead as he has "his" guy now with decent depth at QB2 in Brown.

Re: Tyler Shough is transferring

writing was on the wall. 2020 was his audition, and he didn't do well. looked to me like the game was just too fast for him; he would look for one receiver and then pull it down and run. not really a plan going forward with the talent we have at WR.
best of luck to him wherever he lands. nice job getting a degree in 3+ years.

let the Titanic Thompson Era commence.

Re: Tyler Shough is transferring

Not surprised at this.  I was watching a Duck basketball game last week when, during a commercial, showed PAC-12 students which one was Tyler.  I waved 'bye bye' to him, telling my wife I don't think he will be around much longer.  Too much competition for him to stay.  Hope he lands on his feet somewhere and can have a productive football season.

Re: Tyler Shough is transferring

I feel the same as JJ, OMM, and b in not being surprised that T Shough put his name in the portal. I thought that after A Brown said that he was coming back and all the hype T Thompson was getting, I felt that Shough would explore his options. He did well this season when he wasn't pressured but struggled when there was. The game seemed too "fast" for him this past season. I wish him all the best because he seemed like a good guy, a team guy.

Let's go,Ty!

Shough has game. He lost his confidence, and that got him in the long run. I wish him well. He will make some football team a lot better.

Re: Tyler Shough is transferring

1) I will always believe he was given the starting nod based primarily on patience and loyalty i.e. waiting his turn for when Herbert departed. "We are giving you an opportunity to be the QB for the program. Now show us you can do it." Yet instead of getting better as the season progressed, he seem to struggle more and more.

2) I am not as quick to anoint Thompson as THE QB...I would not rule Jay Butterfield out of the picture or Brown, now that Shough is leaving,  using his wealth of game experiences at this level. Assuming it is an "open competition" and both Brown and Butterfield having one year of practicing and being in the program...anything can happen.

3) I feel comfortable with the hiring of DeRuyter and feel the defense will be lead by good coaching. However, I do not feel the same way about the offensive side of the ball as it applies to the trifecta of Cristobal - Moorhead - Mastro. Based on what I saw last season I think there are glaring issues on QB development; play calling(particularly in the second half) and game management via that position. There are offensive weapons all over the place from new exciting recruits to experienced veterans...however I am proceeding with caution because bad coaching can ruin a talented player.

Re: Tyler Shough is transferring

Can't disagree that the offense couldn't be a bit more dynamic, DR. Still, I think Devon Williams is so super legit. I love that Moorhead let the Ducks go deep this year with thirty seconds before the half. I liked a lot of the play calling. As OMM said, it seemed like Shough ran too early instead of reading the tree.

That said, I thought they went long more than they did in Herbert's swan song, when we went 12-2. At least we won another PAC Natty!

Re: Tyler Shough is transferring

Given the recruiting successes, I would like to see the Oregon QB be similar to that of Mac Jones of Alabama...no need to try to win the game yourself(something I think Shough tried to do) but instead make good decisions to get the ball to people who can win the game.

Oregon has the offensive skill position talent...but we need a QB who gets the ball to that talent i.e. see previous post I made about Redd scoring a TD every 5 times he touches the ball!
