OLive may say it at some point, but I don't remember it ever happening off the top of my head.

They looked really good. They used their athleticism and often finished at the rim besides hitting some deep shots.

Great win by Oregon! They withstood the Garza barrage and played great team ball. Those transition finishes were spectacular. On to the Sweet 16!
Go Ducks!

by far the more athletic team on the court today. was worried early that the officials were calling it too close--every game I watched this weekend was over-officiated--and that the Ducks would have foul trouble in the late-going. but they backed off the whistles in the second half (or the Ducks just played smarter).
been critical of Richardson at times this year, but man he was good today. nineteen points, seven assts, six boards, 3-4 from ThreeVille. he can bring what Ethan Thompson brings to OS: veteran floor leadership and recognition of how and where to attack the opposing D. and the game-sense to know when to push it and when to walk it down. Ducks will go as far as he can take 'em.

If you Google it and believe Wikipedia...the last time osu reached the Sweet Sixteen was 1982 and that was eventually vacated by the NCAA(as were 1980 and 1981 tournament appearances). Before that it was 1975.
The Ducks had a different type of drought...they reached the Sweet Sixteen in 1960 but not again until 2002.
osu had better teams the last 20-years of the previous century(NCAA violations aside) while Oregon has had better teams the first 20-years of this century.
Also so there is no phony hype about Tinkle being this unheard of great coach until now...his team got hot at the right time which is fine and Oregon knows how that can happen too BUT his overall W-L record at osu is around .500 and he is like 25 games BELOW .500 in conference play.
Otherwise, GREAT showing by The Conference of Champions!

Seems to me like the beavs have had favorable matchups. But credit to them for playing well since the PAC-12 tourney.

It’s about time the beavs contribute to the league:

Oregon State has under-performed in recent seasons. main reason was that everything had to go through Tinkle's kid. other players sulked, slacked on D, and forced shots out of rhythm on O (and got a quick seat on the bench).
now, everybody gets to touch the ball. Ethan Thompson is a quality player and floor leader. yes, the beavs have had a easy draw--starting in the P12 tourney, when Ducks and Buffs had nothing to play for--but they are peaking at the right time. we'll see how they do v Houston tomorrow.

I am not sure I would agree with osu having an easy draw...maybe they were seeded too low but they beat Tennessee a #5 seed; Oklahoma State a #4 seed and Loyola was a #8 seed.
Part of the story for that part of the draw was a big time choke by Illinois who was in week 17 ranked #2 in the COUNTRY behind Gonzaga. I cannot believe many people had osu playing Loyola of Chicago in the Sweet Sixteen!
The tournament is kind of like bowl games in football...it is easy to make broad generalizations about teams and conferences. Yet is is like a separate season. I would find it hard to believe that many osu faithful, after their team finished 10-10 in conference play, realistically believed they would win the conference tournament and now be in the Elite Eight with an opportunity to go to the Final Four.
For which I could make the same point of sorts of the Oregon women...lost 5 of their last 6 games including getting bounced from the Pac-12 tournament....starting backcourt unable to play...only 4 players scored in the last game...yet here they are in the Sweet Sixteen with some momentum.
You don't need to have a great season to do well in the tournament...you need momentum and osu definitely has that right now.
