ACC, PAC-12, Big Ten in talks to form alliance

This isn't something I had heard before, and may just be a writers way to fill space, but it is intriguing..

Re: ACC, PAC-12, Big Ten in talks to form alliance

It is the real deal of "news"...I have read 5 different articles on it and seen many more. Discussions are ongoing.

The goal is to create a voting block in the P5 Conferences to prevent the SEC from doing whatever it wants.

As I have read a couple of times, none of these 3 conferences can "stop" the SEC on their own but together they can.

Football schedules and other related issues could also be a part of the alliance.

The key distinction is this is NOT a MERGER but rather an ALLIANCE.

This may indeed happen in some shape or form.

Re: ACC, PAC-12, Big Ten in talks to form alliance

in my dream, the P-12 and B1G divorce themselves from the corrupt 'national championship' scam run by ESPN & the SEC. the Rose Bowl is the P-12 v B1G champ every year. four or five other bowls in Vegas, Diego, and Zona match the runners-up from each conf (delete that one in Levi's Stadium). both confs retain their high academic standards and eligibility rules, rather than rent mercenaries who never see a classroom.

and then I woke up . . .

I like that dream, but I think it's all about the money now..maybe I'm just getting too old to have any hope of high ideals

Re: ACC, PAC-12, Big Ten in talks to form alliance

The way to beat the SEC is to beat them on the field--the problem is----nobody does when it comes to the really big games -except for Clemson. And Im not talkin Cal vs Miss or Mizou. Im talkin about USC getting severely punished by Bama a few yrs ago. At least Oregon did us proud against Auburn but still no chicken dinner.
Sure, Minnesota beat Auburn on a very down year a year or so ago. But the big money teams need to stop choking when it counts.

I think Oregon and UW [ick] can win this year in OOC. If Slovis is on, USC can get Norte Dame. We need 2/3 of those...

Looks like this is coming to fruition. The current football schedules and contracts with other schools will not change. Basketball and Olympic sports will soon. I'll have to look into this more, but my initial reaction is that I like this better than adding the Big 12 leftovers or the Ducks joining another conference.
